Position Summary

This is an entry-level position in maintenance of wastewater facilities.

Under the direction and oversight of theLead Maintenance Technician and/or Supervisor,the Mechanic’s Assistant supports maintenance staff and is trained toperform the maintenance of wastewater facilities and associated systems including, but not limited to, liquids treatment, solids handling, chemical systems, odor control, lift stations.

This position performs a variety of work assignments to ensure acceptable asset conditionsandwaterqualityand health and safety standards are met or exceeded.

Job Responsibilities
  • Learns to perform assigned tasks associated with preventive, corrective, and emergency maintenance work orders for facility assets.

    Work may also includerough carpentry, painting, plumbing, welding duties as required.
  • Participates in an environment of Integrity, Trust, Respect, Unity, Safety, and Teamwork.
  • Assistsin evaluating equipment condition and performance by observation and using inspection tools.

    Learns tomonitorasset operation and notifyappropriate personnel of needed repairs.
  • Maintains thorough logs and records in both written and electronic form as required.
  • Follows job plans to ensure safe and consistent work practices.
  • Observes safety policies and guidelines as required by State statutes andas prescribed byNTMWD.
  • Monitors the facility for any breaches of security and alertsappropriate law enforcement agencies and/or supervisors, as appropriate forthe situation.
  • Monitors systems and assets during emergencies and planned shutdowns and reports problems. Responds to emergencies as directed.
  • Maintains facility and work area housekeeping.
  • Learns and complies with applicable policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements

Education & Experience:
  • No experience in industrial operations or maintenance is required, but it is preferred. Basic mechanical, electrical,and maintenanceaptitudeis preferred.
  • Preference is to obtain a Texas Commission on Environmental Quality Wastewateror Water Treatmentor Collectionor Distribution System Operator 's License.
  • Possess a high school diploma or GED.An associate degreeor trade certification is preferred.
  • Maintain a valid Texas Driver’s License.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Obtain knowledge of maintenance and reliability practices and principles and awareness of wastewater assets and their operation, including the ability to troubleshoot equipment typically used in wastewater operations.
  • Communicate effectively, both written and verbally, with supervisors, peers, and subordinates.
  • Maintain basic computer skillsand electrical and mechanical knowledge.
Environmental and Physical Working Conditions

Driving a District vehicle for business will be required. Employees required to drive as part of their job duties are responsible for maintaining a current, valid, and vehicle - appropriate driver' s license of their resident state.

The duties and responsibilities are generally performed in a wastewater treatment environment. The position involves sitting (up to 6 hours per day), frequent standing, frequent walking, light to heavy lifting (up to 100 lbs.), light carrying, frequent bending and reaching, keyboarding, and telephone operation.

Itmayrequire an irregular work schedule and overtime hours. Specific physical conditions require frequent work with chemicals, tools, machinery, moving mechanical parts, etc.

The duties and responsibilities are performed both indoors and outdoors. Moderate to heavy exposure to sun, dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, biological hazards, rain, temperature and noise extremes, hazardous materials and chemicals, machinery, moving mechanical parts, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, and water hazards are common. Performs and reviews work at locations that involve hazardous environments requiring the physical ability to wear and work using personal protective equipment (PPE) thatmeet or exceed guidelines such asestablishedby OSHA which may result in physical discomfort due to temperature, dust,…
