Position

Summary

Under the direction of the Supervisor and/or Lead Maintenance Technician, the Wastewater Mechanic performs, plans, and organizes the maintenance of wastewater facilities and associated systems, including liquid treatment, solids handling, chemical systems, odor control, and lift stations. The Wastewater Mechanic performs a variety of work assignments to ensure acceptable asset condition and water quality and health and safety standards are met or exceeded.

Job Responsibilities
  • Perform predictive, preventive, corrective, and emergency maintenance for facility assets. Work may also include rough carpentry, painting, plumbing, welding duties as required.
  • Train, lead, and mentor staff, acting as a positive role model and encouraging an environment of Integrity, Trust, Respect, Unity, Safety, and Teamwork.
  • Create and manage service requests and work orders for needed repairs.
  • Evaluate equipment condition and performance by observation and inspection tools.
  • Prepare logs and records in both written and electronic form with accuracy and completeness.
  • Follow job plans and recommend revisions to ensure safe and consistent work practices.
  • Observe safety policies and guidelines as required by State statutes and prescribed by NTMWD.
  • Monitor the facility for any breaches of security and alert appropriate law enforcement agencies and/or supervisors, as appropriate for the situation.
  • Monitor systems and assets during emergencies and scheduled shutdowns; troubleshoot, diagnose, and report problems; respond to emergencies and coordinate repairs, clean‑up, and remediation.
  • Maintain facility and work area housekeeping.
  • Receive shipments, monitor unloading processes, check shipment documents for accuracy, and ensure documents are submitted to appropriate personnel.
  • Comply with applicable policies and procedures.
  • Assume the responsibilities of direct supervisor(s) and subordinates as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements Education & Experience
  • Possess a high school diploma or GED. An associate degree or trade certification is preferred.
  • Possess two (2) years of experience in industrial maintenance or a suitable combination of directly relevant education and experience, as determined by NTMWD.
  • Preference to obtain a Texas Commission on Environmental Quality Wastewater or Water Treatment or Collection or Distribution System Operator's License.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Possess general knowledge of maintenance and reliability practices and principles and awareness of wastewater assets and their operation. Possess the ability to troubleshoot equipment typically used in wastewater operations.
  • Communicate effectively, both written and verbally, with supervisors, peers, and subordinates.
  • Maintain basic computer skills and become proficient at using a computerized maintenance management system to perform major responsibilities.
Environmental and Physical Working Conditions

Driving a District vehicle for business will be required. Employees required to drive as part of their job duties are responsible for maintaining a current, valid, and vehicle‑appropriate driver’s license of their resident state. The duties and responsibilities are generally performed in a wastewater treatment environment. The position involves sitting (up to 6 hours per day), frequent standing, frequent walking, light to heavy lifting (up to 100 lbs.),
