Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
Position Summary
Under the direction of a Lead WW Conveyance System Operator(s) and/or WW Conveyance Supervisor(s), the Conveyance System Operator II performs and plans the operation, maintenance, and monitoring activities in the wastewater conveyance system. The position ensures acceptable asset condition, water quality, and health and safety standards are met or exceeded, and performs related work as required to achieve efficient and effective conveyance system operations.
Job Responsibilities- Monitors, analyzes, and recommends adjustments to facility operations through observation, sample collection and testing, instrumentation reading, and SCADA usage to ensure compliant and efficient operations.
- Notifies appropriate personnel of abnormal conditions, required repairs, and renewals; coordinates with maintenance personnel on repairs.
- Plans, performs, and implements maintenance procedures for facility assets.
- Maintains thorough logs and records in written and electronic form; uses these records to suggest improvements to operations.
- Observes safety policies and guidelines as required by state statutes and prescribed by NTMWD.
- Monitors the facility for breaches of security and alerts appropriate law enforcement agencies and supervisors.
- Monitors systems and assets during emergencies and planned shutdowns, troubleshoots, diagnoses, reports problems, and responds to emergencies as directed.
- Maintains facility grounds and performs general housekeeping.
- Receives shipments, monitors unloading processes, checks shipment documents for accuracy, and ensures documents are submitted to appropriate personnel.
- Learns and complies with applicable policies and procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or trade certification preferred.
- Two (2) years of experience in wastewater conveyance and pumping or a suitable combination of education and experience.
- Texas Commission on Environmental Quality Class II Wastewater Collection Operator's License or Class C Wastewater Treatment Operator’s License required.
- Valid Texas driver’s license required; driving a District vehicle for NTMWD business will be required.
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of wastewater conveyance and pumping processes, compliance requirements, operations and maintenance, and reporting/record keeping.
- Ability to troubleshoot wastewater equipment and processes and perform wastewater tests and interpret results.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with supervisors, peers, and subordinates.
- Basic computer skills; mechanical and electrical knowledge.
The position involves operating in a wastewater conveyance environment, both indoors and outdoors. Physical duties include sitting (up to 6 hours per day), frequent standing, walking, light to heavy lifting (up to 75 lbs.), and use of tools, machinery, and equipment. The job may require irregular work schedules, overtime, and work at locations with exposure to weather, chemicals, machinery, and hazardous materials.
- Manual dexterity and precision movements; repetitive arm and hand movements; occasional forceful exertion.
- Ability to perceive and discriminate colors, sounds, odors, and visual cues.
- Visual and muscular dexterity to operate a motor vehicle, machinery, tools, and a computer.
