Position: Maintenance  Technician

E&I Technician

The E&I Technician services, troubleshoots, and performs predictive and preventative maintenance on a wide range of equipment throughout the facility. This role focuses on electrical and instrumentation systems, including milling equipment, numerous pumps and rolls, process instrumentation controls, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, and complex drive and control systems. The technician ensures reliable operation of plant equipment by diagnosing issues, implementing repairs, and supporting continuous improvement of maintenance practices.

Responsibilities
  • Service, troubleshoot, and perform predictive and preventative maintenance on all equipment in the facility, including milling equipment, pumps, and rolls.
  • Work with process instrumentation controls such as valves, level, temperature, flow, pH, consistency, and consistency transmitters to ensure accurate and reliable process measurements.
  • Maintain, diagnose, and repair hydraulic and pneumatic systems used throughout the plant.
  • Diagnose and repair electrical systems, including AC and DC circuits, to maintain safe and efficient operation of equipment.
  • Work with DC drives, frequency drives of 10–15 different varieties, and related control systems to ensure proper operation and performance.
  • Support and troubleshoot the DCS system, including platforms such as DeltaV, ABB-Bailey, Valmet, or PCS7 Siemens, to maintain stable process control.
  • Perform PLC programming and troubleshooting, particularly with Siemens PLCs, to support automation and process control initiatives.
  • Identify and resolve issues with medium-voltage equipment, specifically around 2300V, and support work on higher-voltage systems where applicable.
  • Use electrical test equipment and diagnostic tools to investigate faults, verify repairs, and validate equipment performance.
  • Document maintenance activities, repairs, and modifications clearly and accurately to support ongoing reliability and compliance.
  • Collaborate with a large maintenance team of millwrights and E&I technicians to coordinate work, share information, and support safe, efficient operations.
  • Adhere to all safety procedures and lockout/tagout requirements when working on equipment with large moving parts, high elevations, and confined spaces.
  • Remain flexible to work a standard Monday–Friday day shift and potentially transition to a DUPONT schedule if operational needs require it.
Essential Skills
  • Hands-on experience working with medium-voltage electrical systems, specifically around 2300V.
  • Strong PLC experience, including programming and troubleshooting, with particular focus on Siemens platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and work with a wide range of frequency drives, not limited to a single variety.
  • Proficiency in process instrumentation controls, including valves, level, temperature, flow, pH, consistency, and consistency transmitters.
  • Experience with DCS systems, such as DeltaV, ABB-Bailey, Valmet, or PCS7 Siemens.
  • Solid experience in heavy industrial environments such as refineries, power plants, paper mills, chemical plants, or steel mills.
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical systems involving AC and DC voltage safely and effectively.
  • Strong diagnostic skills for hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Competence in using electrical and instrumentation tools and test equipment for maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Comfort working in extremely dirty, hot, and physically demanding environments with large moving machinery and elevated or confined work areas.

Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience in a paper mill environment.
  • Background in an oil refinery, chemical plant, or power plant.
  • Experience working with voltages up to 13,800V.
  • Prior experience in a unionized maintenance environment.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a large maintenance team of millwrights and E&I technicians.
  • Strong attention to safety practices in environments with high heat, heavy machinery, and elevated work areas.
