Job Objective
The Salvation Army Alton IL Corps is looking for a Custodian under the direct supervision of the 360 Life Center Site Administrator. The Custodian is responsible for the general maintenance and custodial duties of the 360 Life Center building and grounds. This position is part‑time, 27 hours per week, and pays $15.00 per hour.

525 Alby St, Alton, IL.
- Perform housekeeping duties including dusting, window washing, cleaning restrooms, emptying trash, vacuuming, spot carpet cleaning, sweeping/mopping, etc.
- Make small or minor repairs (e.g., change furnace filters, replace light switches/ballasts, replace faucets, doorknobs, etc.) as necessary and bring major repairs to the 360 Life Center Site Administrator’s attention.
- Maintain Corps grounds including yard work, trash removal, snow removal, lawn mowing, and any additional outside repairs as necessary.
- Maintain the overall appearance and functionality of all properties.
- Operate and maintain all equipment, and ensure vehicles receive proper and timely maintenance at the 360 Life Center.
- Keep maintenance rooms clean and in order.
- Complete maintenance and Corps furniture inventory.
- Prepare rooms for Corps programs, luncheons and other meetings.
- Participate in team training and development when necessary.
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with Salvation Army Safe From Harm guidelines.
- Maintain a positive work atmosphere by fostering good relationships with clients, visitors, co‑workers and supervisors.
- A high school diploma or GED with one year of related work experience; a combination of training and experience will be considered.
- Ability to read and comprehend a job description, cleaning instructions, and material safety data sheets.
- Basic communication skills to facilitate good communication between visitors and other employees.
- Required to have an appropriate valid driver’s license (MO “E” or IL “D”) and must pass the Salvation Army MVR check.
Capable of frequently lifting 30 pounds, occasionally up to 100 pounds, and moving 100 pounds or more using a dolly, cart, or truck. Majority of lifting is from floor to waist height; some above waist and shoulder height at reduced weight. The role requires bending, stooping, crouching, standing, walking, carrying, and pushing/pulling items. Occasionally climb a ladder to work on fixtures.
Work may be outdoors in cold winter and hot summer conditions.
