A to Z Building Blocks Early Care & Education is hiring a dependable, safety-focused Handyman Worker to help keep our child care centers clean, functional, and safe for children, families, and staff.
This is a great opportunity for someone with handyman, construction, carpenter, drywall, and general maintenance experience who enjoys variety, staying busy, and making a real impact every day.
About A to Z Building BlocksA to Z Building Blocks is a child care center serving children ages 6 weeks to 12 years old. Our maintenance team plays an important role in keeping our buildings safe, secure, and running smoothly for our classrooms and families.
Position SummaryAs a Handyman Worker, you will complete routine repairs, respond to maintenance requests, perform safety checks, and help maintain a clean and hazard-free environment across our centers.
Key Responsibilities- Perform routine facility maintenance including repairs, painting, and cleaning
- Complete general maintenance tasks including basic plumbing, electrical work, and general repairs
- Inspect and maintain playground equipment to meet safety standards and prevent hazards
- Conduct regular safety inspections and address potential hazards promptly
- Respond quickly to maintenance requests from staff and leadership
Maintain inventory of tools, equipment, and supplies - Document maintenance work, repairs, and inspections accurately
- Communicate professionally with team members (and families when needed)
- Support safety protocols and emergency procedures
- Assist in emergency response situations as required
- Attend monthly training meetings and continue professional development
- Must be at least 21 years old
- Must pass a background clearance
- Must be able to pass a drug test and participate in random drug testing
- Reliable transportation and consistent attendance
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong commitment to maintaining a clean, safe, secure environment
- Ability to follow health and safety regulations
- Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical work, and general repairs
- Ability to prioritize tasks and handle urgent maintenance needs
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
- Must be able to bend, squat, kneel, climb stairs, and stand for long periods
- Must be able to move quickly and safely throughout the facility
- Flexible availability may be needed for tasks during facility closures
- Professional communication and respectful attitude are required
- No alcohol while working and must be safety-minded at all times
- Flexible part-time hours (15–20 hours/week)
