The job of Custodian is to provide custodial services at the assigned site, ensuring an attractive, sanitary, and safe environment for students, staff, and visitors. Responsibilities include performing special cleaning operations, preparing facilities for classroom activities and campus events, supporting fellow custodians in their assignments, and ensuring tasks are completed safely and in a timely manner.
Essential Functions- Assist with site snow removal to ensure access and safety for students, staff, and visitors.
- Attend unit meetings, in‑service training, workshops, etc. to gather necessary information for job functions.
- Clean assigned facilities and/or grounds (e.g., classrooms, offices, gym, restrooms, multipurpose rooms, pools, grounds) to maintain a sanitary, safe, and attractive environment.
- Deliver a variety of items (e.g., supplies, mail, packages, furniture) for distribution to appropriate parties within the site.
- Inform students and site personnel to provide information and direction regarding activities, safety issues, and/or proper maintenance of facilities and equipment.
- Lift up to 80 pounds and may push/pull up to 150 pounds for site maintenance, material distribution, and safety.
- Monitor activities in and around work areas (e.g., halls, multipurpose rooms, lunch room, restrooms, grounds) to prevent injuries and ensure site safety.
- Perform summer maintenance (e.g., strip/wax floors, move furniture, painting) to facilitate summer construction.
- Perform minor, job‑related maintenance on custodial equipment, classroom furniture, and fixtures to ensure proper functioning and usability.
- Prepare the site for daily operations (e.g., opening gates, raising flags, sweeping walkway) to ensure facilities are operational and hazard‑free.
- Replenish classroom and restroom supplies (e.g., paper towels, soap) to maintain adequate quantities for daily use.
- Respond to immediate safety and/or operational concerns (e.g., facility damage, vandalism, alarms) by taking appropriate action or notifying relevant personnel.
- Respond to inquiries from staff, students, parents, and/or visitors to provide information, take action, and/or direct to appropriate personnel.
- Secure facilities and grounds (e.g., doors, gates, alarms, lights) to minimize property damage, equipment loss, and potential liability.
- Support other site maintenance staff (e.g., grounds, trades) to complete custodial activities.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective operation of the work unit.
