The Ames Community School District is seeking a Head Custodian for Ames High School.

Monday-Friday, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm; 12 months (year round)

• Perform routine custodial duties, including cleaning classrooms, cafeteria, restrooms, offices, etc.
• Prepare facilities for evening and weekend use including rentals.
• Train custodians on work tasks and procedures.
• Inspect work areas.
• Clean carpets and care for vinyl tile and terrazzo floors by stripping, sealing, and waxing.
• Ensure district safety policies and procedures are followed and report violations or concerns immediately.
• Secure the building and perform lock‑up duties.
• Develop and communicate work assignments to substitute custodians.
• Perform snow removal by shoveling and operating an ATV with a plow and salt spreader.
• Input work orders to ensure the facility and all building components are in good working order.
• Organize the schedule for summer cleaning.
• Create a sense of belonging and welcoming environment for all students and staff.
• Attend work on a consistent and punctual basis.
• Perform other tasks as assigned.

• Ability to frequently perform physical tasks, including lifting, bending, shoveling, and moving items up to 50 pounds (e.g., furniture, trash, bags of ice melt).
• Strong teamwork skills.
• Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously and change assignments with short notice.
• Effective use of computers to enter work orders, manage email, and submit timesheets and absences.
• Will work outdoors in inclement weather.
• Eagerness to learn and assist other team members.
• Excellent time management and organization.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to follow instructions and complete tasks with minimal supervision.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.

$18.65 per hour
