Position Summary
The Lead Ice Rink Supervisor oversees part‑time staff and maintains a safe, efficient operating environment for all ice‑related activities at the Mullins Center. This position is responsible for supervising staff during UMass Hockey games, handling ice maintenance, equipment upkeep, and logistics, while also performing janitorial duties and emergency repairs as needed. The role requires flexible scheduling, including weekends and extended game‑day hours, with an hourly rate of $20.00–$22.00.
Responsibilities- Supervise part‑time staff, ensuring clear communication and effective performance across all operational roles (skate guards, reception, janitorial teams).
- Maintain a safe working environment by identifying hazards, reporting concerns, and enforcing safety standards in accordance with OSHA regulations.
- Lead all ice operations for UMass Hockey games, including staff training, game‑day logistics, and ice maintenance execution, with the authority to manage operations independently of the Ice Rink Director.
- Oversee all aspects of ice maintenance, including Zamboni and edger upkeep, inventory management, and accurate documentation of maintenance activities.
- Coordinate a Zamboni driver training program, including testing and re‑testing of drivers.
- Provide daily status reports and feedback to the Ice Rink Director during shifts.
- Perform janitorial duties as needed, maintaining cleanliness of the Community Ice Rink at all times.
- Respond to equipment failures and perform emergency repairs to ensure successful event execution.
- Work 20–30 hours per week, with weekend shifts as assigned and coverage of on‑call duties when required.
- Minimum of 2–3 years of experience in ice rink and ice maintenance operations.
- High school diploma, GED, or related trade school training.
- Valid driver’s license for operating a Zamboni.
- Basic knowledge of general hand tools necessary for ice maintenance and rink repairs.
- Physical ability to lift and carry heavy equipment and supplies on a regular basis.
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, extended hours on game days, and on‑call coverage during emergencies.
