HOURS OF WORK:
Schedule varies (4/10’s). Mon‑Thu, 6am‑4:30pm;
Tue‑Fri, 6am‑4:30pm;
Fri‑Mon, 6am‑4:30pm;
Wed‑Sat 6am‑4:30pm;
Sun‑Wed 6am‑4:30pm; all shifts with a 1/2 hour meal period.
LOCATION:
North Park Maintenance Shop – 2839 Mt. View Drive;
South Park Maintenance Shop – 11440 Lang Street.
This position is represented by the Public Employees, Local 71, and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the Union.
Employees who are hired or rehired to any position shall be placed at the entrance pay step, and advancement from the entrance step to the maximum step within a pay grade shall be by successive steps.

Applicants shall be referred and considered for this position in the order as follows per the Collective Bargaining Agreement:
- Internal applicants currently working under the Public Employees (Local 71) Collective Bargaining Agreement
- Local union dispatched applicants
- External applicants and other current Municipal employees not covered under this agreement
The primary purpose of this position is to maintain the Municipality of Anchorage park land and facilities in a safe and usable condition for the public to enjoy. The employee performs routine park maintenance under general supervision, leads Parks Caretaker I positions to clean up illegal camps and store personal belongings as needed, and focuses on homeless camp cleanup. Duties include removal of trash, debris, and waste, disposal of removed articles in a safe and sanitary manner, litter collection, snow and ice removal, trail maintenance, general grounds and facility cleaning, repair, and other duties as assigned.
The role requires independent work, sound judgment, initiative, and the ability to direct lower‑level staff on projects or daily tasks.
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
- One (1) year experience as a Parks Caretaker I or equivalent
- Valid State of Alaska Driver’s License with satisfactory driving record at time of hire
- Satisfactory background check including criminal, education, and employment history
- Municipality of Anchorage participates in the U.S. Department of Homeland Security E‑verify Program
Applicant must be capable of bending, twisting, and kneeling; lift and carry items weighing more than fifty (50) pounds; and work outdoors in inclement weather.
