Job Description

Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, perform a wide variety of custodial and maintenance duties to provide a clean, orderly, and safe environment. This position will receive a 15% base pay differential.

Work Hours:

Saturdays: 6:30 am - 5:00 pm

Sundays: 10:30 am - 9:00 pm

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The essential functions or duties listed below are intended only as illustration of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position.

  • Sweep, mop, scrub, seal, wax, polish, vacuum and shampoo carpeted areas and tile, VCT and terrazzo flooring; remove and apply finishes as required.
  • Operates floor care equipment including buffers, wet and dry vacuums and carpet shampoo machines, maintain equipment including buffets, wet and dry vacuums and carpet shampoo machines, maintain equipment in good working order.
  • Clean and maintain classrooms, offices and buildings in an orderly and secure condition.
  • Painting and light plumbing work as necessary.
  • Turn out the lights and secure areas by locking doors, windows and gates.
  • Assist in testing cleaners, detergents, waxes and other agents.
  • Clean and sanitize restrooms, toilets, sinks and mirrors.
  • Clean and sanitize drinking fountains.
  • Dust, wash and polish furniture and woodwork.
  • Empty and clean waste receptacles.
  • Wash windows, walls and chalkboards; polish metal work.
  • Fill paper and soap dispensers; replenish supplies.
  • Replace light bulbs as assigned.
  • Move, arrange and set up furniture and/or equipment for sporting or special events and meetings as required.
  • Raise, lower, fold, and store flags following appropriate protocol.
  • May perform general seasonal grounds keeping work around the school the site such as weeding flower beds, raking, leaves, edging and watering lawns.
  • Any additional job-related duties as assigned by the Director of Facilities.
Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent, or at least five years of hands‑on work experience in construction, landscaping, or a similar manual labor field
  • A valid driver’s License is required
  • Ability to pass a pre‑employment physical examination
  • Outside facilities maintenance positions require an MA in Hydraulics and an OSHA 10‑hour certification
  • Inside facilities maintenance positions require OSHA 10‑hour certification
Knowledge, Ability and Skill
  • Knowledge in skilled trades related to general facilities maintenance, including basic mechanical and electrical ability
  • Demonstrates aptitude and competence in a broad range of trade skills through the use of hand tools, power tools, safety equipment, and experience related to district‑owned and customer community equipment and assets.
  • Knowledge of and ability to read and follow procedures from a given equipment O&M manual or standard operating procedure (SOP)
  • Knowledge of and ability to follow safety procedures such as confined space entry, respiratory and hearing protection, lockout/tag out, and hazard communication practices related to Material Safety Data Sheets
  • Ability to safely use and dispose of hazardous materials with care; identify stains and use proper chemicals for their removal; properly use a wide range of chemicals according to state and federal regulations.
  • Ability to manage personal projects, tasks, and deadlines
  • Ability to work comfortably with peers at all levels in the organization; to be generous, courteous, capable, and cooperative; and to help others succeed
  • Able to independently, proactively, and creatively seek solutions that meet the needs of the district while fostering learning and advancement of Facilities Maintenance staff.
