Job Title: Substitute Cleaner
Job Overview: The Substitute School Cleaner is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and sanitation standards throughout the school premises. This position involves performing various cleaning tasks to ensure a safe and hygienic environment for students, staff, and visitors. The Substitute Cleaner may be required to fill in for regular cleaning staff on short notice or as needed.
Responsibilities:
- Perform routine cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and dusting in classrooms, hallways, offices, and other areas as assigned.
- Clean and sanitize restrooms, including toilets, sinks, mirrors, and replenish supplies such as soap, paper towels, and toilet paper.
- Use appropriate cleaning agents to disinfect high-touch surfaces such as door handles, handrails, light switches, and desks.
- Empty waste bins and dispose of trash in designated areas, ensuring compliance with recycling and waste disposal policies.
- Strip, wax, and buff floors as needed, following proper procedures for floor maintenance and safety.
- Assist with deep cleaning tasks, seasonal cleaning projects, and other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
- Clean and maintain cleaning equipment and tools, such as vacuum cleaners, mop buckets, and floor buffers, to ensure proper functioning and longevity.
- Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and the safe handling of cleaning chemicals.
- Report any maintenance issues, safety hazards, or supply shortages to the appropriate supervisor in a timely manner.
- Work collaboratively with other cleaning staff and school personnel to achieve cleanliness goals and maintain a positive working environment.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Prior experience in janitorial or custodial work preferred.
- Familiarity with cleaning products, equipment, and techniques for various surfaces and environments.
- Ability to perform thorough cleaning and sanitation tasks with attention to detail and quality.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift heavy objects repeatedly throughout the shift.
- Dependability and punctuality essential, as substitutes may be called upon with short notice.
- Willingness to work variable hours and adapt to changes in cleaning schedules or priorities.
- Ability to follow instructions, communicate effectively with supervisors and colleagues, and understand safety guidelines and procedures.
Working Conditions:
- The Substitute School Cleaner will primarily work during non-school hours, including evenings, weekends, and school holidays.
- Job may involve exposure to cleaning chemicals and other hazards, requiring appropriate PPE.
- Position may require lifting, carrying, and pushing heavy objects, as well as prolonged periods of standing and walking.
