The City of Ankeny is accepting applications for a full-time Airport Maintenance Technician at the Ankeny Regional Airport. This position performs work under the general supervision of the Airport Manager. This position's primary responsibilities are mowing, lawn care, and turf management of the open areas and turf lawns at the Ankeny Regional Airport. Additionally, the Airport Maintenance Technician performs skilled work involving the operation of light-duty construction equipment and snow/ice control equipment.

Also, will be responsible for maintenance/minor repairs to the mowing and snow/ice control fleet and periodically perform related duties as required for airport maintenance and upkeep.

Starting salary range is $27.794 - $30.643 per hour depending on qualifications, plus excellent benefits.

Hours:

8 am - 5 pm, Monday - Friday, possible overtime during off-hour emergencies and weekends.

Responsibilities
  • Mows and maintains the open grass/field areas of the airport using a large diesel tractor with bat wing mower attachment.
  • Mows and trims the turf grass areas around the airport buildings, hangars, parking lots, and sidewalks. Utilizes zero-turn mowers and trimmers.
  • Performs snow and ice control on the taxi lanes, parking lots, driveways, access roads, and sidewalks on the airport. Utilizes a pickup with plow blade, walk-behind snow blowers, and other equipment.
  • Completes scheduled maintenance on the mowing equipment, snow/ice control equipment, pickup, trailers, and smaller equipment within the airport vehicle fleet. Also completes minor repairs to the fleet vehicles and equipment.
  • Assists in implementing a facility management program including preventative maintenance and life-cycle requirements for mowing and snow/ice control equipment.
  • Performs minor electrical maintenance to include, but not limited to, replacement or repair of fixtures on the runway lighting system and within the aircraft hangars/buildings using appropriate hand, power, and specialty tools.
  • Participates in maintenance work such as trimming around buildings and parking areas and pruning trees and brush.
  • Performs manual labor as required including digging, painting, carpentry, facility cleaning and repair.
  • Maintains, fabricates, repairs, and replaces airport amenities as directed by the Airport Manager.
  • Loads and unloads heavy objects and materials used in airport operation activities.
  • Occasionally attends manager-approved seminars and workshops to enhance technical skills, learn new techniques, and participates in safety training sessions.
  • Assists the Airport Manager in preparing the annual maintenance budget.
  • Performs other maintenance duties as assigned by the Airport Manager.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in vehicle and equipment maintenance, building maintenance, and outdoor facility maintenance.
  • Understanding of and ability to perform maintenance and basic repairs to airport vehicles, mowers, and equipment.
  • Basic understanding of electrical, plumbing and carpentry.
  • Ability to obtain an Iowa pesticide applicator certification.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions, ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, and ability to perform manual labor for extended periods under adverse…
