POSITION SUMMARY:Under the supervision of the Facilities Director or Evening Custodial Supervisor, the custodian will maintain the cleanliness of YMCA facilities, equipment and property in a safe manner so as to enhance the Association’s membership retention efforts.

Monday-Friday; 10am-2pm
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Operate carpet cleaning equipmentOperate mechanical floor cleaning equipmentOperate Kaivac equipmentSweep and Wet mop floors and stairwaysCollect and dispose of trash/recycling and soiled towelsClean furniture, cases, fixtures, and furnishingsClean mirrors, interior side of exterior glass and both sides of interior glass while standing on floor and step ladderClean toilet rooms and fixturesStock restroom suppliesHigh dust ledges and fixtures while standing on floor or step ladderSpot wash walls to remove such items as splash marks around sinks and fingerprints around light switchesReport items in need of repairMaintain an inventory of supplies in accordance with specific instructionsMove and arrange furniture and furnishingsClean assigned area of work and equipmentWash/dry and fold towelsMaintain positive relationships with staff and members in a child friendly environmentAdvise the Facilities Director or Evening Custodial Supervisor of conditions which affect the safety, condition, or attractiveness of the facilities, equipment and grounds.Attend required trainings.Assist the Facilities Director or Evening Custodial Supervisor with the outside contractors and vendors that are doing work in the building and on the grounds.Benefits include

Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:Must be able to read and write, speak and understand English and be able to follow instructions.Exposure to the skills to be taught, some informal training or on the job training. Equivalent to two years of high school.Must have a positive attitude with good customer relation skills.Must be able to perform a wide range of physical activities including pushing, pulling, lifting, bending, kneeling, reaching, etc.Must not have any type of lifting restrictions.Must be a team player, able to prioritize work and be able to handle stress on a daily basis.WORKING CONDITIONS:Performing General Physical Activities – Performing physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materialsHandling and Moving Objects – Using hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials, and manipulating thingsWork Within a Team Environment – Assist staff as needed with miscellaneous tasks, help with annual special event set up, and be a team player to impact the Association’s membership retention initiativesClimbing. Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized. This factor is important if the amount and kind of climbing required exceeds that required for ordinary locomotion.Crouching. Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.Reaching. Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.Standing. Particularly for sustained periods of time.Walking. Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.Pushing. Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward or outward.Pulling. Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw haul or tug objects in a sustained motion.Lifting. Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position.
