Position: Facilities Assistant (Onsite Position)

Facilities Assistant

The Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning is hiring for a facilities assistant. Reporting to the facilities supervisor, you will help manage facilities-related questions and inquiries from faculty, staff, and students at three locations (the Art and Architecture building on North Campus, a classroom in the Modern Language Building on Central Campus and the Liberty Annex in downtown Ann Arbor).

Typical tasks include assembling various types of furniture, mounting shelves, moving furniture and other items, resetting spaces to their standard format, patching and painting, garbage/recycling collection, sorting mail, basic bathroom maintenance, etc. You will also provide event set-up/coordination and management of security and emergency issues.

Note:

This job is situated in Ann Arbor and daily on-campus work is required. The anticipated schedule for this position is Monday through Friday from 11:00am - 8:00pm (there will be an initial training period during which the hours will be 8:00am - 5:00 pm). The schedule may also require paid overtime for early morning, evening, and weekend hours during peak times.

Responsibilities
  • Handle requests from faculty, staff, and students for building maintenance problems
  • Install and maintain equipment and furnishings/fixtures, paint small items and areas
  • Assist with office relocations and manage the furniture moves or rearrangement
  • Collaborate with facilities supervisor and events coordinator to set up and tear down events including ensuring room cleanliness before and after events
  • Conduct regular visual inspections of our three buildings (driving a college-provided vehicle) and identify issues and preventative maintenance opportunities
  • Call work orders into Plant Operations Call Center and follow up on work requests to ensure their completion
  • Respond to emergency situations and coordinate mechanical repairs/failures related to equipment or the building (i.e. electrical, plumbing, power outages, vandalism, etc.)
  • Maintain building safety and security
  • Handle requests for s, keys and access to buildings and rooms
  • Light cleaning duties such as cleaning up spills and disposing trash
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor
Required Qualifications
  • 1+ years of work experience in facilities/operations or related area
  • Able to move heavy furniture and equipment throughout the Taubman College facilities
  • Valid driver's license and ability to pass the University of Michigan Motor Vehicle Record check
  • Excellent attendance and punctuality record
  • Basic understanding of Google Suite (Gmail, Drive, Sheets, Docs, and Forms) or similar Microsoft Office products
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, ability to multi-task with competing demands and deadlines
  • Positive, customer service-focused attitude
