SUMMARYWorks with staff, guests, students, and WISD administrators to provide a safe, well-maintained, and clean environment to enhance positive learning and work experiences.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Demonstrates a strong commitment to equity, social justice, and inclusion in all practices and position responsibilities.
- Demonstrates the ability to examine how his/her/their position (directly or indirectly) impacts educational inequities in student achievement outcomes.
- Engages in reflection and ongoing learning and development on critical concepts and terms identified in the Washtenaw ISD Educational Equity Policy including concepts such as cultural proficiency, racial equity, and systemic and structural inequities.
- Performs maintenance and custodial tasks on the interior and exterior of facilities necessary to maintain a safe and clean atmosphere in a cooperative and customer-friendly manner.
- Maintains a secure educational and work environment, including locking and unlocking doors.
- Responsible for disarming and/or arming building while performing opening and/or closing routines.
- Advises supervisor of repair and maintenance action required for building operation and equipment functionality.
- Carries out preventative maintenance duties as directed, independently, as well as assists trades in maintaining building equipment.
- Maintains preventative maintenance logs and paperwork as well as other records as required.
- Performs maintenance of electrical systems and performs replacement work as necessary such as replacing bulbs and ballasts, outlets, switches and breakers.
- Performs plumbing maintenance including replacement work such as rebuilding Sloan valves, replacing fixtures and snaking toilets.
- Performs maintenance of the HVAC systems including replacement work as necessary such as changing belts, filters and cleaning coils.
- Performs minor carpentry repairs including drywall, paint, cabinetry, etc.
- Responds to work orders in a timely manner and prioritizes the workload as required.
- Replaces like-shift custodians in their absence.
- Utilizes technology – including the electronic work order system and email to support the functions of the District.
- Operates cargo van on a regular basis to perform duties at a variety of District locations.
- Maintains regular, predictable attendance.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Experience in plant operation, maintenance, heating and ventilation, building repair, cleaning methods and procedures.
- Commitment to a continuous program of self-development - preferred.
- Proficient in the operation, preventative maintenance, and minor repair of HVAC systems, plumbing, electrical, security, and pool operations.
