This posting will be used to fill Full-Time, Permanent, Safety Sensitive, Maintenance Worker I positions in the Waste Management Services Division in the Department of Public Works.
This is manual labor in the performance of unskilled and limited semi-skilled tasks of a physically demanding nature. This is a six (6) days per week operation and scheduled and emergency overtime is required. This position requires working weekend overtime.
NATURE AND VARIETY OF WORKWork involves responsibility for performing heavy manual labor which does not require a high degree of manipulative skill or previous experience in order to do an effective job. As work experience is gained, employees of this class may be assigned to somewhat more difficult and responsible tasks. Work assignments are detailed, and the work is subject to review by a superior while in progress and upon completion.

Performs laboring duties at a county landfill such as cleaning buildings and grounds, directing trucks at working base of landfill, cutting grass, and related duties. Operates power tools and related equipment as a necessary adjunct to performance of regular assignments or on a relief or seasonal basis. Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES- Grass Cutting
- Road side litter pick-up
- Cleaning buildings
- Maintaining grounds
- Lifting up to 90 lbs. alone
- Lifting up to 180 lbs. with partner
- Digging ditches
- Proficiency operating a Chain Saw, Pole Saw, Weed-Wacker, Tamper, and/or Lawnmower
- Ability to direct traffic/trucks
- Ability to acquire some skill in the use of equipment and hand tools used in the area of assignment
- Ability to work a twelve-hour shift during emergency conditions on an as needed basis
- Ability to work scheduled and unscheduled overtime
- Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods and under unfavorable weather conditions
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
Education

Sufficient education to understand and follow oral and written instructions
Additional Requirements
: a valid non-commercial Class C motor vehicle operator's license.
NOTE:
This position is Safety Sensitive and employees in this position are subject to Controlled Dangerous Substance (CDS) And Alcohol testing.

Longevity pay is available based on years of service.
