Public Works Maintenance Worker I

The Village of Antioch is seeking qualified and team-oriented applicants for the position of Public Works Maintenance Worker I. Under the direct supervision of the Public Works Director or designee, this position performs entry-level work related to the construction, operation, care, and maintenance of the Village’s infrastructure and facilities. Assignments may involve working with members of a crew or working independently.

The ideal candidate will have knowledge of general construction, repair, and maintenance principles; the ability to safely operate and care for hand and power tools, vehicles, and maintenance equipment; and the ability to perform a variety of semi-skilled and unskilled tasks in the construction, maintenance, and repair of facilities and Village infrastructure. This position requires the ability to work cooperatively with employees, supervisors, and the general public;

follow written and oral instructions; exercise sound judgment; maintain consistent attendance; and work on-call on a rotating basis, including during snow removal season and emergencies.

High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Minimum of one (1) year of experience in streets repair, construction, maintenance, or a related field. A valid driver’s license is required. Possession of a valid Class “B” CDL with Air Brakes Endorsement or ability to obtain one within six (6) months of hire is required. Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to successfully perform the essential job functions of this position.

The beginning hourly rate for this position is $24.13 with a full range to $31.22/hour with an opportunity for merit based increases. An excellent benefits package is available, including IMRF, medical, dental and vision benefits.
