Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
Job Overview
The Sanitizer is responsible for safely cleaning the interiors and exteriors of company vehicles to meet the biosecurity standards set by Smithfield Foods. This role ensures that all trucks, trailers, cars, and pickup trucks are properly washed, sanitized, and maintained to protect employees, the environment, and the community.
Core Responsibilities- Wash and sanitize trucks and trailers.
- Clean interiors and exteriors of cars and pickup trucks when required.
- Assist the Sanitation Lead Person with maintaining washing equipment, including cleaning and storing equipment.
- Follow the safety requirements of the Injury Prevention System (IPS).
- Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and guidelines as directed by management.
- Work flexibly to accommodate changes in duty assignments.
- Collaborate with the team to meet daily departmental goals.
- Assist with facility and equipment maintenance.
- Ensure compliance with environmental, biosecurity, and safety laws and procedures.
- Report all environmental issues immediately to the supervisor.
- Help with grounds and facility upkeep, such as cutting grass, removing trash, and cleaning inside and outside the facility when required.
- Understand and follow the company’s emergency notification process as it applies to the specific worksite.
Hourly rate: $16.20 with an additional $1.00 night shift premium.
Qualifications- High School diploma or GED preferred.
- Ability to perform physically demanding labor.
- Strong commitment to teamwork and the ability to work well with others in a fast‑paced environment.
- Excellent follow‑through on instructions and ability to handle standardized situations.
- Willingness and ability to work an average 60‑hour week, with flexibility for weekend, evening, and holiday work as needed.
- Availability to be on call for emergency situations, including power outages and personnel shortages.
- Proficiency in operating a tractor‑trailer within the truck yard.
- Backing skills required to move trailers in and out of wash bays.
Frequent lifting or moving of up to 20 lbs.; frequent standing, walking, using hands, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling; and communication through speaking or hearing are required.
