Appleton Downtown Inc is looking for a reliable and skilled maintenance and beautification specialist to perform essential upkeep tasks throughout the Business Improvement district. In this position, you will be responsible for a wide variety of activities such as minor repairs and cleaning to ensure that our downtown is tidy, safe, and welcoming. Being reliable and self-motivated with a keen eye for detail is essential in this job.
You should have the manual dexterity and physical stamina necessary for this work.
- Maintain hardscape features: cleaning, spot pressure washing, trash and recycling collection, minor touch up painting, etc.
- Graffiti removal and small repairs throughout the district. Reporting to APD and DPW as needed
- Monitor pet waste station(s) replace bags and empty as needed
- Weekly team meeting every Monday 10am - noon.
- Weekly check in with CARE team
- Coordinate installation, maintenance and removal of the mobile parklet unit
- Coordinate installation and supply requests on the holiday decorations with the City of Appleton team.
- Monitor pole banner condition and coordinate replacement request
- Monitor alleyway and garbage areas for dumped items and nonconforming use
- Work with City DPW to coordinate installation of sidewalk instruments
- Work with City Forester to order flowers for tree planters and explore options for up lighting in planters
- Must have basic computer skills to be able to email and create documents.
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Proven experience as a maintenance worker or other similar position is a plus
- Ability to safely and appropriately operate and maintain tools, including hand and electrical tools, and small power washing equipment
- Entry level knowledge of hardscape maintenance practices and materials required to make repairs also a plus
- Effective communication and professional interpersonal skills
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with individuals and groups who come from diverse backgrounds and represent members of the public, coworkers, and/or vendors
- General passion for creative problem-solving
- Enthusiasm for Downtown Appleton
- Ability to work a flexible schedule
- Team player with attention to detail yet able to work independently
- Organized; follows through to meet commitments and deadlines
- Schedule is 4 days a week up to 20 hours. Preferred is:
Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday
