Overview
This position involves developing and teaching courses and shop activities in the welding curriculum, including layout, blueprint reading, fabrication, oxy‑fuel welding and cutting, shielded metal arc welding, gas tungsten arc welding, gas metal arc welding, flux‑core arc welding with self and gas shielded wires, inspection and testing, and welding math. Instruction may be delivered at MATC campuses, community sites, business locations, and on evenings or weekends under the supervision of the Dean of the MCT Pathway.
Responsibilities- Prepare for and deliver instruction and perform teaching‑related activities.
- Manage the classroom and laboratory.
- Develop curriculum and monitor and revise as appropriate to maintain course effectiveness; assist in program evaluation.
- Manage equipment, supplies and materials.
- Assess student performance and advise students on academic issues.
- Collaborate with the advisory committee in the program area.
- Attend departmental and institutional meetings.
- Promote the education/training program, participate in efforts to recruit and retain students, and participate in marketing MATC.
- Support student organizations and activities.
- Develop relationships with business and industry.
- Complete program evaluation and follow‑up.
- Maintain certification, continue professional development and stay current in the field.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:
Language Requirements:Fluent in English and Spanish – able to speak, read, and write in both languages.
MinimumEducational Requirements:
- Associate’s degree or higher in a related field,
- 10 years (20,000 hours) of welding experience,
- A state‑approved registered apprenticeship in steamfitter, boilermaker, sheet metal, millwright, machine repair or ironworker.
Experience:
- 4 years (8,000 hours) of total work experience in welding, including:
- Oxy‑fuel welding and cutting
- Shielded metal arc welding in all positions
- Gun, tungsten arc welding of aluminum, steel, and stainless‑steel materials; plasma cutting
- Flux‑core arc welding with self‑shielded and gas shielded wires of any diameter
- Gas metal arc welding with any diameter solid wire, including pulsed arc transfer
- Read blue‑prints and set up parts
- Interpret welding requirements from symbols on blueprints
- Quality control experience
- Inspection and testing
- Use welding codes and procedures
- At least one year of work experience within the last five years, or
- At least two years of welding teaching experience at the post‑secondary level within the last five years (equivalent to one year full‑time or two semesters).
- American Welding Society (AWS)
- Certified Welding Educator (CWE)
- Certified Welding Inspector (CWI)
Certifications:
- State of WI weld certifications
- Journey level status in a welding trade: steamfitter, boilermaker, sheet metal, or ironworker.

- Blackboard Ultra – experience with Blackboard or similar web‑based course management systems
- Technology‑based instruction – experience with SMART, interactive touch‑screen monitors, LCD projectors, DVD players, or other classroom technology
- Emerging technologies – experience with social networking applications
Hourly wage: $40 per course hour of teaching (part‑time). Additional compensation of $70 per hour for office hours and prep time. Position up to 0.5 FTE. Hours, location, and modality are based on enrollment and departmental need.
Modality: 100% in‑person.
