Janitor, Facility Maintenance, Cleaning Services, Maintenance Worker
custodian position
reporting to the airport operations and maintenance manager, the custodian keeps assigned areas of terminal clean and orderly. Seeking candidates that will work casual call and have at least basic custodial or janitorial experience. On-the-job training, including equipment use, will be provided.
Hours:
we are looking for a candidate who can work flexible, based on business needs. Weekly hours will vary, with shifts that may fall between 4:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m. Or 2:00 p.m.–9:00 p.m. This position is not eligible for benefits.
the following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- performs heavy cleaning work, including sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, stripping waxes, buffing floors, washing walls, windows, and woodwork, dusting and polishing furniture, cleaning restrooms, and replenishing supplies.
- operates related equipment including manual and automatic floor scrubber, rug shampoo machines, wet/dry vacuum, snow brooms, etc.
- removes paper and trash from designated areas including fencing and curbing.
- assists with the removal of snow and ice.
- arranges and moves furniture to accommodate meetings.
- collects recyclable materials from designated areas and deposits in appropriate container.
- performs minor maintenance functions in terminal building.
- monitors terminal safety and security, reporting any problems to appropriate personnel.
- answers customers' questions, giving directions as necessary.
- conducts tsa required inspections for suspicious packages as required.
- escorts non-cleared visitors, vendors and repair people and monitors their activities as required.
- maintains regular and predictable attendance, works overtime/extra hours as required.
- performs other duties as assigned.
- high school graduate or g.e.d.
- specialized classes in industrial arts or building trades desired
- two years of maintenance experience required
- or, any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- knowledge of and demonstrated ability to conform to goals, policies, and procedures of the department as well as the outagamie county work rules and terms of employment.
- knowledge of and ability to use equipment and tools for minor maintenance and repair work.
- ability to perform minor equipment, building, and grounds maintenance tasks.
- ability to read and understand material safety data sheets and follow standard safety procedures.
- knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment.
- ability to effectively communicate in english and understand and follow written and oral instructions.
- ability to work semi-independently making sound decisions using good judgment.
- ability to use tact and diplomacy when dealing with customers, co-workers, tenants, general public, etc.
- ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, and figure simple mathematical calculations.
- ability to walk, stoop, climb, bend, stretch; push, pull, and lift up to 50 pounds, understanding and utilizing proper body mechanics.
