Housekeeping/Custodial Position

Under direct supervision of the Facility and Operations Manager, the Housekeeping/Custodial role provides a clean, safe and sanitary environment by cleaning resident rooms, baths, offices, halls, and other areas. May also be involved in inventory, ordering, receiving and distribution of supplies. This position will work through Manpower and will not be a direct employee of Outagamie County. The position is anticipated to work for approximately 60 days.

The hours are 7:00am-3:30pm with an every 4th weekend requirement (Saturday AND Sunday).

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

• Performs heavy cleaning work, including sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, stripping waxes, buffing floors, washing walls, windows, and woodwork, dusting and polishing furniture, cleaning restrooms and replenishing supplies.
• Operates related equipment including manual and automatic floor scrubber, rug shampoo machines, wet/dry vacuum, hand held polishers, etc.
• Maintains supplies and equipment used.
• Delivers disposable products, linen, and medical supplies to neighborhood closets and to Villager rooms.
• Collects recyclable materials from various locations and deposits in appropriate containers.
• Assists with removal of snow and ice using shovels and other hand tools by entrances.
• Maintains regular and predictable attendance, works overtime/extra hours as required.
• Ability to communicate effectively with Maintenance Personnel, Department Heads, Supervisors, County Employees, and Visitors.
• Cleaning and sanitizing restrooms, sanitize door knobs, push plates, light switches, and all high touch point surfaces.
• Performs painting projects as directed, using appropriate equipment, techniques, and safety procedures.
• Replaces light bulbs as needed.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Maintains regular and predictable attendance, works overtime/extra hours as required.
• Every 4th weekend required (Saturday AND Sunday).

Graduate from high school or G.E.D. Or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities. Experience with automatic floor scrubbers, burnishing machines, carpet extractors, and knowledge of stripping and waxing floors preferred. This position does require successful completion of a Post Offer Pre Employment Examination (POPE).

• Knowledge of nursing home organization, medical supplies, and equipment.
• Ability to operate hand trucks, and sign making machines.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, and figure ratios.
• Knowledge of and demonstrated ability to conform to goals, policies, and procedures of the Department, Brewster Village and the Outagamie County Work Rules and Terms of Employment.
• Knowledge of and skill in using cleaning products and equipment.
• Ability to read and understand Material Safety Data Sheets and follow standard safety procedures and regulations.
• Ability to budget time and schedule work to efficiently complete tasks.
• Ability to effectively communicate in English and understand and follow written and oral instructions.
• Ability to work semi-independently making sound decisions using good judgment.
• Ability to effectively use tact and diplomacy with residents, co-workers, general public, etc.
• Demonstrated reliability in attendance and flexibility to work hours.
• Ability to organize and schedule work cooperatively and effectively with co-workers.
• Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position as specified on the attached "Employer's Statement of Job Requirements," understanding and utilizing proper body mechanics.
• Demonstrated willingness to work out any conflicts with others.
• Ability to communicate with Villagers clearly and respectfully, without patronizing or manipulating.
• Demonstrated sensitivity to the particular challenges residents face in terms of communicating their needs and preferences.
• Knowledge of preventative maintenance and repairs.
• Ability to keep simple records in various formats such as corrective and preventative maintenance sheets as required.
• May operate a light truck or other vehicle then would need to possess a valid driver's license.
• Ability to safely operate small power equipment such as lawnmowers, riding mowers, edger, trimmers, etc.
• Ability to understand and efficiently use various computer programs including but not limited to Outlook, Word, Excel, Tyler, Facility Dude, medical supply ordering programs through the use of an iPad or computer.
