(Job #554094) Lead Custodian, Salary Range: $3,596 - $5,035 (Step 1 – Step 18) monthly, Hiring Range: $3,596 - $3,741 (Step 1 – Step
3) monthly. Final salary placement is commensurate with experience, internal equity, and budget considerations. This is a full-time, benefited, non-exempt, 12-month pay plan, permanent position with a one-year probationary period in the Facilities Management Custodial Services Department. This position comes with a premium benefits package including vacation, medical, dental, vision plans, life insurance, pre-tax accounts, a fee waiver education program, PERS, and 15 paid holidays per year.

Lead Custodians provide lead work direction for one or more custodians and/or custodial student assistants. Leads perform a wide range of daily, weekly, monthly, semi-annual and annual custodial duties and support for assigned campus buildings and areas, as needed to cover when Custodians are on leave. Areas may include offices, classrooms, laboratories, auditoriums, gymnasiums, locker rooms, health and child care centers, patios, entryways, walkways, workshops, etc.
Key Responsibilities- Provide Lead Work Direction for Custodial Staff – 25%
- Assigns, reviews and inspects the work of assigned custodial staff. Reports observations to the Custodial Supervisor and/or Custodial & Logistics Manager for further review.
- Ensures implementation of custodial services per the adopted building custodial plan and provides input for revisions.
- Trains and instructs others in duties, safety and proper use of equipment.
- Completes inventory forms, maintenance work requests, and other forms as required.
- Assists in ensuring custodial staff time records are filed in the Facilities Management work management system and University time and absence reporting system.
- Provides input for employee evaluations and identifies equipment, supply, and repair needs.
- Coordinates custodial support for campus events and conducts regular area inspections with documentation.
- Typically assigned to night shifts; schedules may shift to meet operational needs.
- Provide General Care, Custodial Cleaning and Support to Assigned Areas/Buildings – 35%
- Clean and maintain assigned areas, including surfaces, restrooms, windows, fixtures, furniture, floors, and general housekeeping.
- Maintain floors (sweeping, mopping, stripping, sealing, waxing, polishing); vacuum carpets and operate floor cleaning equipment.
- Provide custodial support for emergencies, material handling, lighting and minor repairs, building security, event setup and cleanup, and related tasks.
- Identify and organize materials and equipment; report maintenance issues for completion by other department personnel.
- Assist with building security and event needs, including locking/unlocking doors and setting alarms.
- Provide General Care, Custodial Cleaning and Support Coverage – 30%
- Participate in University-required Trainings/Meetings, Mobilize/Demobilization & Record-keeping/Timekeeping Tasks – 5%
- Participate in mandated trainings and meetings; track and report time/materials; use the University time management/absence reporting system.
- May perform duties related to emergency response when required.
- Other Duties as Assigned – 5%
