Function:
The general maintenance employee performs routine facility maintenance, grounds keeping, custodial, and courier duties as assigned.

Appropriate training and/or experience in one or more areas of facility and grounds maintenance. Ability in the use of commercial equipment and machinery. Sound physical health; punctuality. Ability to adapt to varying assignments and tasks. Ability to work without direct supervision. Ability to relate cordially with others. Background and fingerprint clearance. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may deem appropriate and acceptable.

Work with and supervise inmates. Maintain/repair broken water lines and sprinkler system. Operate district equipment, i.e. tractor, forklift, mowers, gas-powered handheld tools. Assist in facility set-up for sports events, assemblies and deliver, store, set-up classroom and office furniture. Assist in groundskeeping, as needed. Perform other duties as directed.

Heavy lifting (80-100 lbs.), including maneuvering, transporting, placing loads. Physically demanding tasks under variable conditions, i.e., summer or inclement weather, on rooftops, scaffolds, ladders, under buildings. Stooping, bending, turning, reaching, etc. as necessary in performing duties and repairs, handling supplies and equipment. Operation of heavy equipment (backhoe, forklift, mowers, trucks, etc.); commercial vehicles. Standing/working for extended periods of time. Proper handling of hazardous waste materials;

prompt response to emergency situations.

Terms of employment:
Twelve-month working agreement. Salary as determined by the Board of Education. Evaluation in accordance with Board policy.
