Title

Maintenance Technician

Position Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Director of Maintenance, the Maintenance Technician is responsible for ensuring that school buildings and grounds are maintained in a clean, safe, orderly, and functional condition. This position performs a variety of maintenance tasks and supports the efficient operation of district facilities.

Work Schedule

Monday - Friday; 6:00 a.m.

- 2:30 p.m.;
Subject to emergency call as needed.

Responsibilities
  • Perform routine maintenance to ensure school buildings and grounds remain clean, orderly, and safe.
  • Conduct minor repairs and maintenance, including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems.
  • Inspect facilities and equipment regularly and report or recommend repairs and replacements to the supervisor.
  • Regulate building systems to maintain appropriate seasonal temperatures and optimize energy usage.
  • Secure building entrances and exits, ensuring all doors and windows are properly locked before departure.
  • Maintain and service mechanical equipment and ensure preventative maintenance schedules are followed.
  • Procure and manage tools, equipment, and materials necessary for maintenance tasks.
  • Track inventory and place orders for supplies and materials as needed.
  • Document work performed and maintain accurate records.
  • Perform snow and ice removal and other seasonal maintenance tasks.
  • Assist in maintaining a safe, clean, and functional environment for students, staff, and visitors.
  • Maintain open and professional communication with administrators, staff, and families.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the school Principal.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge of:
    • Maintenance and repair techniques related to carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems.
    • Building codes, safety regulations, and occupational health standards.
    • Occupational safety and health laws and regulations.
    • Basic facility maintenance practices and preventative maintenance procedures.
  • Skills in:
    • Troubleshooting, problem-solving, and repair of building systems and equipment.
    • Basic mathematical calculations.
    • Effective verbal and written communication.
    • Use of tools, equipment, and materials related to maintenance tasks.
  • Ability to:
    • Interpret and follow oral, written, and diagrammatic instructions.
    • Work independently and collaboratively with school staff and students.
    • Maintain accurate records and documentation.
    • Travel between school sites and district facilities as needed.
    • Perform physically demanding tasks in a safe and efficient manner.
Working Conditions
  • Work is performed in indoor and outdoor environments across school facilities.
  • Must be comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces.
  • Exposure to varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and snow.
  • Periodic strenuous physical activity required.
  • Standard risks associated with the use of power tools and maintenance equipment.
  • Ability to operate a district vehicle and riding lawn mower.
  • Requires regular attendance and punctuality.
Qualifications & Skills
  • High school diploma or equivalent, required.
  • Previous experience in facility maintenance and repair preferred.
  • Any combination of education and experience providing the required skills and knowledge for successful performance may be considered.
  • License/certifications in skilled trades, preferred.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable personal transportation, required.
  • Successful completion of required background check and employment screenings.
