Position Overview

Perform routine custodial activities at an assigned school site or facility to maintain buildings, locker rooms, and adjacent ground areas in a clean, orderly, and secure condition. During the school year, this is an evening shift position (2:30 pm–10:30 pm) Monday through Friday. Summer work hours are typically during the day shift.

Responsibilities
  • Perform routine custodial activities at assigned District school site; sweep, scrub, mop, wax, and polish floors and vacuum rugs and carpets; spot clean and shampoo carpets.
  • Clean classrooms, restrooms, locker rooms, shops, cafeteria, offices and related facilities; sweep, mop and clean gymnasium floor; spot mop spills and remove gum and debris; clean tables, chairs and floors after lunch periods.
  • Clean and disinfect drinking fountains, sinks, toilets, showers, and urinals; clean mirrors, tile, and windows.
  • Report safety, sanitary, and fire hazards and recommend maintenance repairs; maintain security of buildings; report suspicious or unauthorized individuals and infractions of rules to supervisor.
  • Wash windows and walls; clean chalkboards, dry‑erase boards, trays, erasers and empty pencil sharpeners; assemble, move and arrange furniture, supplies and equipment for special events or meetings.
  • Clean blinds, dust and polish furniture and woodwork; make minor, non‑technical repairs as needed.
  • Lock and unlock doors and gates; maintain security; turn alarm system off in morning and on in evening.
  • Pick up and rake paper, trash, and debris around school grounds; sweep and clean walkways and entrances; dispose of trash; wash out trash cans; follow sanitation procedures.
  • Pack, unpack, load, receive and store books, supplies, materials and other items.
  • Pull, carry and lift large and heavy objects (up to 50 lb).
  • Operate cleaning equipment such as vacuum, floor stripper, cleaner, buffer and polisher, carpet shampooer, scrubber, high‑pressure sprayer, manual and power sweepers and power blowers.
  • Shovel, plow and sand walkways as directed.
  • Respond to emergency cleanups such as spills; maintain records of maintenance needs and safety issues.
