My client is a leading union electrical contractor specializing in large-scale commercial construction projects
Position OverviewThe Project Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records for active construction projects and ensuring the smooth execution of financial processes, including contract management, billing, and cash flow analysis. This role involves close collaboration with the project management team to ensure timely approvals and reporting, while maintaining compliance with company policies and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities- Maintain the general ledger for active projects, ensuring accurate tracking of all financial data.
- Set up new projects in the accounting system and ensure proper documentation and provisions are in place.
- Request, review, and extract relevant provisions from contracts and ensure the execution of all contracts and change orders.
- Request and collect sub-tier billings required for billing packages and ensure timely payouts.
- Compile monthly draw packages and ensure all project-specific documentation is complete and submitted.
- Request, collect, review, compute, and generate sub-tier waivers, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Manage the collection, distribution, and storage of all change orders.
- Collaborate with the project management team to ensure draw requests are submitted and approved on time.
- Follow up on project-related rejections and facilitate timely revisions to maintain project progress.
- Maintain an up-to-date cash flow ledger for each project, addressing and reporting any accounts receivable (AR) collection issues to ensure accurate cash flow projections.
- Analyze project financial performance, reporting any variances from goals promptly.
- Communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders to assess project health and financial status.
- Build and maintain strong professional relationships with customers' and suppliers' representatives to ensure smooth financial operations and collaboration.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, and Outlook.
- Strong data entry skills with a high level of accuracy.
- Experience in accounting, particularly in a project-based environment.
- Familiarity with construction accounting software (e.g., Textura, Procore).
- Experience with EIP (Economic inclusion plan) and Diversity reporting.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and take on new responsibilities as needed.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong time management, flexibility, and adaptability in handling a variety of tasks.
- Professionalism in both written and verbal correspondence.
- Ability to analyze and report financial variances and maintain project cash flow health.
