Senior Nonprofit Accountant

A well-established, mission-driven nonprofit organization is seeking a Senior Accountant to join its finance team. This is a strong opportunity for someone with nonprofit or regulated-industry experience, or an accounting professional who has been looking to transition into the nonprofit sector.

Key Responsibilities

• Complete and review month-end close activities in accordance with GAAP.
• Reconcile general ledger, cash, investment, prepaid, fundraising, and AR accounts.
• Own client banking procedures, monthly reconciliations, and transfers.
• Support HUD reporting, billing, audits, EIV reporting, and MOR requirements.
• Oversee billing compliance, including Medicaid and Medicare requirements.
• Support annual financial statement and regulatory audits.
• Review staff accounting entries and provide technical guidance.
• Manage team workload, training, accountability, and cross-training.
• Help improve accounting systems, reporting tools, and internal processes.
• Utilize Financial Edge NXT and related accounting software.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; bachelor’s preferred.
• 3+ years of accounting experience.
• 1+ year of supervisory or team-lead experience.
• Strong GAAP, month-end close, and reconciliation experience.
• Ability to independently analyze accounts and resolve discrepancies.
• Experience supporting audits or working in a compliance-driven environment.
• Nonprofit, HUD, government-funded, healthcare billing, or regulated-industry experience is preferred.
• Financial Edge NXT experience is a plus.

Direct nonprofit experience is not required. Candidates who have owned complex reconciliations, month-end close, audits, billing, and compliance responsibilities may transition successfully.
