Program Assistant for Read to Learn Adult Literacy Program

District 214 Community Education is seeking a compassionate and organized Program Assistant to support the Read to Learn Adult Literacy Program, helping adult learners and volunteer tutors connect through educational opportunities that strengthen our community. Whether assisting with learner registration, coordinating volunteers, preparing program materials, or supporting daily operations, we're looking for someone who enjoys working behind the scenes to help others succeed.

This part-time position offers daytime hours Monday through Friday, with occasional evenings and Saturdays based on program needs. Help create opportunities for lifelong learning one learner, one tutor, and one success story at a time.

Schedule:

This is a part-time, grant-funded position, requires a minimum of 12 hours per week. The schedule primarily consists of daytime hours, Monday through Friday, with occasional evening and Saturday hours based on program needs. Exact hours are to be determined. This is an IMRF position.

Salary: $24.00 per hour

General Responsibilities:

  • Respond to volunteer tutor and adult learner inquiries via telephone, email, website, and Literacy Hotline in a timely manner.
  • Maintain documentation of contacts for statistical reporting purposes.
  • Assist with preparations for tutor training workshops and Site Supervisor meetings, including refreshments, obtaining needed supplies, assembling folders, etc.
  • Prepare calendars, lists, schedules, and materials necessary for adult learner registration and site openings and closings.
  • Assist site supervisors with adult learner registration and testing.
  • Coordinate twice-yearly email to volunteer tutors and adult learners.
  • Maintain supply of RTL flyers for office and for outside distribution.
  • Order printed materials from Studio 214 Internal Printing Services.
  • Enter RSVP monthly hours online Shared responsibility for keeping office copiers and fax machine operational, mail distribution, replenishing general office forms, supplies, etc.
  • Provide assistance to other Community Education staff members, as needed.

Reports to the Read to Learn Program Coordinator. Perform other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Some college preferred, ideally AA in Early Childhood Education.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent minimum.
  • Expertise in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite
  • Data entry skills, with attention to detail and accuracy
  • 2 years' experience in an administrative/office role
  • The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, detail-oriented, able to work collaboratively with others in a team environment, and able to handle multiple priorities/deadlines.
  • Must pass a criminal background check.

Physical Demands:

  • This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing, lifting and walking are required.
  • This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary.
  • Ability to lift 20 lbs., bend, stoop, and stretch overhead.
  • Ability to travel to local off-site locations.

High School Diploma or Illinois High School Equivalency Certificate required
