Role Description

The Math and Science Tutor role is a part-time position (with growth potential for full-time work) based in Arlington Heights, IL. In this role, the tutor provides individualized (and potentially small-group instruction) math and science, helping students grasp core concepts and improve their performance in school.

Day-to-day responsibilities include planning lessons, reviewing homework, preparing practice problems, and explaining material in clear, accessible ways. The tutor will conduct sessions both in-person and online, track student progress, communicate regularly with The Think Tank's support staff, and adjust teaching strategies to meet each student’s needs. The tutor is expected to maintain a supportive, inclusive learning environment that encourages students to ask questions and develop confidence.

Qualifications
  • Strong knowledge of Mathematics, up to Calculus, with the ability to explain concepts at middle‑and‑high‑school levels. Physics, Chemistry, and/or Biology are a plus.
  • Experience with Tutoring and Online Tutoring, providing one‑on‑one or small‑group academic support.
  • Excellent Communication skills for interacting effectively with students and team members.
  • Ability to think on your feet, use digital tools for remote sessions, and adapt teaching methods to diverse learning styles.
  • Prior experience tutoring math and science subjects is preferred.
  • Comfort working in‑person, with reliable transportation to Arlington Heights, IL and a suitable space for remote instruction when needed.
  • Relevant coursework or a degree in education, mathematics, science, or a related field is beneficial.
