Simulation Clinical Faculty Position

Sauk Valley Community College, a comprehensive community college located in a picturesque rural setting, invites applications from innovative individuals for a Simulation Clinical Faculty position.

Located in rural northwestern Illinois, along the scenic Rock River between the cities of Dixon and Sterling, the College is one hour from Rockford and the Quad Cities and two hours west of Chicago.

Policy, Operations & Facility Management
  • Develop, implement, update, and monitor simulation lab policies, procedures, use, and operation.
  • Maintain lab inventory, ensure safe storage and disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Monitor and assure appropriate standards of lab cleanliness, provide for equipment maintenance, repair, and replacement.
  • Manage and provide recommendations related to the simulation lab budget.
Curriculum Design & Simulation Activities
  • Design and implement clinical simulation activities in alignment with the content of each nursing course to enhance clinical competency and readiness for patient care.
  • Assist in the design, development, and implementation of specific nursing skills-based training and the evaluation process. Plan, implement and teach faculty development programs relevant to simulation education and program student learning outcomes.
  • Create and maintain a respectful and professional working environment, incorporating active learning, reflective thinking, and a confidential debriefing process. Promote critical thinking, clinical judgement and professionalism.
  • Continually update and refine lab and simulation experiences based on identified needs.
Teaching, Instruction & Student Support
  • Orient instructors in lab procedures, location and use of materials, and operation of equipment.
  • Serve as a resource for students and faculty.
  • Oversee students during direct patient care rotations at healthcare partner sites.
  • Teach nursing curriculum theory courses as needed.
  • Facilitate hands‑on skills practice, supports dosage calculation competency, assists with clinical coursework, care plans and related assignments.
Assessment & Continuous Improvement
  • Perform assessment and data analysis to evaluate learning lab and simulation activities and outcomes.
  • Participate on committees related to curriculum design and/or performance assessment from the simulation/lab/clinical perspective.
Strategy, Collaboration & Administration
  • Collaborate with community partners in the development and implementation of inter‑professional simulation activities as directed.
  • Develop, in cooperation with the supervisor, annual goals for the simulation lab.
  • Work closely with college faculty; assuring appropriate integration of simulation and lab activities, to maximize utilization and moderate costs.
  • Assume all other reasonable professional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.

  • Must understand and support the mission of a community college.
  • Must have strong communication (written and oral), interpersonal skills, and analytical skills.
  • Must be able to communicate and work effectively in a team environment.
Technology & Software Skills
  • Must be able to work with Microsoft Office and Google products.
  • Must be able to learn and work with Educational and Instructional software.
Simulation Standards & Learning Environment
  • Follow the Standards of Best Practice:

  • Must be able to maintain a safe, organized and effective clinical learning environment, promoting student engagement and confidence.
Physical & Operational Requirements
  • Must be physically able to demonstrate and assist in the lab and clinical setting.
  • Must be able to work evenings as required.
Education & Licensure
  • Master’s degree in nursing; licensed (or eligible for licensure) as a registered nurse in Illinois; at least two-year’s experience in simulation facilitation or clinical education, and recent medical‑surgical experience.
