Transportation Project Manager
Job Description
The Transportation Project Manager plans and leads complex transportation and roadway engineering projects, applying sound judgment in the evaluation, selection, application, and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria. This role manages design consultants and internal teams, oversees project schedules and compliance, and ensures that all engineering activities meet department and industry standards. The Transportation Project Manager collaborates closely with municipalities, stakeholders, and multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality transportation solutions and successful project outcomes.
Responsibilities
+ Plan and conduct transportation and roadway engineering work that requires independent judgment in the evaluation, selection, application, and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria.
+ Manage and coordinate the work of design consultants, including leading project meetings, setting expectations, and ensuring alignment with project goals and standards.
+ Review engineering plans, drawings, and related documentation to verify accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable standards and requirements.
+ Maintain consistent and organized project documentation, including meeting minutes, design records, correspondence, and technical reports.
+ Oversee and track project schedules to ensure milestones and deadlines are met, proactively identifying and addressing potential delays or issues.
+ Monitor and manage project compliance with department standards, industry regulations, and applicable codes and guidelines.
+ Track and support the management of project budgets, helping to ensure that work stays within approved financial parameters.
+ Facilitate collaboration and problem solving with municipalities, stakeholders, and internal and external teams through meetings, presentations, and information-sharing platforms.
+ Provide ongoing project updates and technical advice to team members, leadership, and stakeholders to support informed decision-making.
+ Administer contracts as needed, ensuring that scope, schedule, and deliverables align with contractual requirements.
+ Exercise sound judgment in selecting methods and techniques to develop effective project solutions and resolve technical challenges.
+ Perform additional support tasks as needed to ensure successful project outcomes and client satisfaction.
Essential Skills
+ Eight to twelve years of related engineering experience, preferably in transportation and roadway design.
+ Bachelor of Science (BS) in Civil Engineering.
+ Current registration as a Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the state of Illinois.
+ Demonstrated ability to manage projects, including tracking schedules, monitoring budgets, and administering contracts.
+ Strong background in transportation engineering and roadway design.
+ Proficiency in Micro Station for transportation and roadway design work.
+ Proven project management skills with the ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders and deliverables.
+ Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present information clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
+ Strong organizational skills with the ability to maintain consistent and accurate project documentation.
+ Effective collaboration skills for working with municipalities, stakeholders, and internal and external teams.
+ Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while exercising sound engineering judgment.
+ Ability to select appropriate methods and techniques to develop practical and effective project solutions.

+ Experience leading transportation or roadway projects involving multiple municipalities or agencies.
+ background in tracking and reporting on project performance, including schedule and budget status.
+ Experience preparing and delivering presentations to stakeholders and project teams.
+ Familiarity with transportation design standards and best practices at local, state, and industry levels.
+ Strong problem-solving abilities with a proactive approach to addressing project challenges.
+ Ability to build positive working relationships in a collaborative and growth-oriented environment.
