Technology Assistant – Help Desk (12 Month)

Salary: $27.62/hour
Duration: July 1, 2026 – June 30, 2027 (12 months)
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIESThis position involves overseeing and supporting building and district technology systems and hardware, assisting the Technology Services Supervisor in supporting, troubleshooting, maintaining hardware and software inventory, and related tasks. There is considerable contact with students, staff and parents in supporting classroom instruction. The Technician assists with community inquiries. The primary responsibility is to provide help desk service to staff and students, supporting and troubleshooting computer and tablet hardware, desktop and mobile operating systems, registration processes, routine maintenance of computer and tablet hardware and software, telephones, and other technology systems.
May supervise and assist students under certified staff and perform related support tasks. Initiative, courtesy and tactfulness, and willingness to become knowledgeable with a variety of software and applications are essential.
Employees work within established systems and procedures, exhibit organizational skills, exercise independent judgment and confidentiality, and embrace a collaborative team approach.
QUALIFICATIONS- Must have or obtain State and NCLB approved paraprofessional designation in accordance with Illinois State Board of Education requirements.
- Physical ability to lift or move supplies, materials and office equipment up to 40 lbs.
- Ability to sit at a workstation for extended periods and/or move frequently to various areas of the building.
- Organize and prioritize workflow effectively.
- Proficiency in the use of computers, office practices, procedures and office equipment.
- Project a positive image of the district to students, staff and parents and exhibit a positive employee attitude.
- Demonstrate appropriate interpersonal skills and communicate clearly and respectfully with students, staff, parents, visitors and the general public.
- Awareness of a variety of student needs, including physical and social‑emotional needs.
- Ability to access all electrical/computer connections.
- Mechanical/technical aptitude, troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills, and perform software upgrades and maintenance.
- Install and upgrade equipment and software.
- Maintain the technology help desk.
- Perform equipment maintenance.
- Assist students and staff with hardware and software.
- Prepare and distribute technology hardware at the school.
- Troubleshoot hardware and software problems.
- Use and maintain an online help desk to track and report support issues.
- Assist in implementation of networking procedures.
- Assist in implementation and enforcement of network and information‑management security protocols.
- Maintain building supplies and hardware/software inventories.
- Recognize system incompatibilities and application errors.
- Present new digital and online resources to students, staff and parents.
- Support district‑wide implementations, events, and other buildings as needed, and support students and parents throughout the community.
- Providing individualized or group instruction in the use of technology hardware and online digital resources.
- Supervising students.
