Monday-Friday, (variable), rotation of Saturday coverage - Required Travel: no
- Serves as a consultant to the inpatient units when difficulties with a breastfeeding dyad are beyond the knowledge or training of a staff nurse.
- Consults, develops and implements breastfeeding procedures including follow-up evaluations for breastfeeding patients and assessments of pregnant patients referred by the hospital staff, physician or physician's office staff.
- Serves as a liaison between the community and NWCH providing ongoing expertise, education and support to groups and individuals.
- Provides a communication link between the hospital and physician's office to assure coordination of patient care and maintains communication with physicians concerning patients experiencing breastfeeding problems.
- Works with the appropriate shared governance councils to update policies, procedures and documentation relating to the breastfeeding dyad.
Education: Successful completion of an Associate's degree, or diploma from an accredited school of nursing required. BSN preferred
Certification: Certification as an International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) required or obtained within one year of hire
BLS from the American Heart Association
License: Current professional Nursing Licensure in the State of IL required
Experience: A minimum of three years of experience working with both mothers and newborns.

- The verbal communication skills necessary to effectively work with patients, nursing staff, and physicians.
- The written communication skills necessary to provide good documentation and to prepare educational material.
- Interpersonal skills necessary to interact with patients and other members of the health care team.
- Presentation skills necessary to effectively teach prenatal classes and to do in-service programs for health care providers.
- Organizational skills necessary to work independently and to develop effective educational programs.
- Experience in patient teaching and group leadership dynamics.
