Registered Nurse - OCN

Overview

Registered Nurse - Oncology Certification (OCN) or OCN Eligibility Required.

Full‑Time, Monday‑Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM.

Salary Range: $85,000 – $95,000.

• Plan, implement, coordinate, evaluate and promote continuity of care consistent with established standards and practices.
• Assess health status by interviewing patients regarding current status and medical history.
• Collect and record nursing assessments and interventions.
• Review and report results of health status assessment, physical examination, laboratory data, radiographic data, and psychosocial assessment to the provider.
• Assess patient/family needs and provide teaching and other instructional materials.
• Provide psychosocial support to patients and families.
• Maintain patient confidentiality.
• Prepare and administer therapies under direction and supervision of a physician.
• Administer all medications and blood products with correct dosage, route, time, and technique; confirm pre‑authorization and consent forms where applicable.
• Facilitate dose modifications by assessing patient labs, consulting protocol or treatment plan, calculating dose, and consulting physician if needed.
• Perform venipuncture, access implanted ports, and maintain central line catheter devices.
• Maintain accurate documentation of patient care and treatments.
• Apply knowledge of reimbursement procedures and charge capture.
• Restock supply area and maintain equipment per quality control standards.
• Follow OSHA guidelines when handling cytotoxic agents and biohazardous waste.
• Maintain disinfection protocols.
• Facilitate clinical operations and patient care, manage medication refill requests, schedule consultations, pre‑testing, diagnostic tests or procedures, referrals, and future appointments.
• Triage patient phone calls and document relevant information.
• Facilitate communication between patient/family and interdisciplinary team; coordinate services related to patient care.
• Assist patients in locating community resources and collaborate with clinical research.
• Act as a resource for LPN/LVNs and medical assistants.
• Provide nursing coverage for satellite offices as needed.
• Serve as mentor/preceptor; provide day‑to‑day guidance to less experienced nurses.
• Participate in professional development activities and maintain current knowledge of oncology nursing through continuing education.

• Graduate from an accredited professional nursing education program; BSN preferred.
• Registered Nurse license with current registration with the State Board of Nursing in the practicing state.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Maintain continuing education requirements.
• 3–5 years nursing experience, including at least one year in oncology (preferred).
• Oncology certification preferred.

Work environment may involve exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medical preparations, and other conditions common in an oncology/hematology clinic. Physical demands include lifting, standing, walking, manual and finger dexterity, eye‑hand coordination, and handling patients. Work may require full range of body motion and the ability to lift and carry items up to 40 lb.
