Registered Nurse

Overview

Registered Nurse – Full‑time, Monday‑Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM. Salary: $85,000–$95,000. Benefits:

Under general supervision, provides professional nursing care for patients adhering to national and company standards and guidelines for specialty regulations. Demonstrates knowledge of physiological, psychological, and developmental and age‑specific differences in the patient population including late adolescence, adulthood, middle age, and the elderly. Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to provide assessment and therapeutic management of patient/family needs. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, including the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.

• Plan, implement, coordinate, evaluate, and promote continuity of care consistent with established standards and practices.
• Assess health status by interviewing patients regarding current status and medical history.
• Collect and record nursing assessment and interventions.
• Review and report results of health status assessment, physical examination, laboratory, radiographic, and psychosocial data to the provider.
• Provide teaching, instructional material, and psychosocial support to patients and families; maintain confidentiality.
• Prepare and administer therapies under physician supervision; administer medications/blood products with correct dosage, route, time & technique.
• Obtain pre‑authorization and consent forms prior to therapy administration; facilitate dose modification based on labs and protocol.
• Perform venipuncture, access implanted ports, and maintain central line catheter devices.
• Maintain accurate documentation of patient care and treatments.
• Apply reimbursement procedures and charge capture knowledge.
• Restock supply area, maintain equipment per quality control standards, and ensure disinfection protocols.
• Follow OSHA guidelines when handling cytotoxic agents, biohazardous waste, and other potential blood‑borne pathogens.
• Facilitate clinical operations, manage medication refill requests from pharmacy line, and record information in patient chart.
• Assist physician with exams and procedures; maintain efficient patient flow in exam rooms.
• Schedule consultations, tests, referrals, and future appointments; triage phone calls and document information.
• Facilitate communication among patients, families, and interdisciplinary team; coordinate related services.
• Assist patients in locating community resources; collaborate with clinical research.
• Act as a resource for LPN/LVNs and medical assistants; provide nursing coverage for satellite offices.
• Serve as mentor/preceptor and guide less experienced nurses.
• Other duties as assigned.
• Participate in professional development activities and maintain current oncology knowledge through ongoing education.

• Education/Training
  :
  Graduate from an accredited professional nursing program; BSN preferred.
• RN state license and current registration with the state board in the practicing state.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Maintain continuing education requirements.
• Business Experience
  : 3–5 years of nursing experience, including at least one year in oncology preferred.
• Specialized Knowledge/Skills
  :
  Oncology certification preferred.

Office or warehouse environment. Possible exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medical preparations and other conditions common to an oncology/hematology clinic. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.

Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, eye‑hand coordination, and standing/walking for extended periods. Occasionally lifts and carries items up to 40 lbs. Requires normal vision and hearing with corrective aids if necessary.

Provide nursing care from initial contact through high‑dose chemotherapy, stem cell rescue, and post‑rescue follow‑up. Manage symptoms, toxicities, and health abnormalities related to high‑dose therapy and stem cell rescue; facilitate clinical operations and patient care; report data to registries; incorporate transplant network recommendations; assist in community education regarding stem cell transplantation; program portable infusion pumps and instruct patients/caregivers on use and maintenance.
