Are you a customer-focused professional who enjoys helping people and creating safe public spaces? We are seeking a part-time Security Officer to join our team in evenings and weekends supporting the safety and security of our library locations, staff, and customers.
What You’ll Do- Help maintain a safe, welcoming environment for customers and staff.
- Patrol library buildings and grounds to monitor activity and address concerns.
- Enforce the library’s Code of Conduct and other policies fairly and consistently.
- Respond to customer, staff, and safety-related incidents, including emergencies.
- Coordinate with law enforcement, fire, medical, and other emergency responders when needed.
- Document incidents and prepare accurate reports.
- Monitor security cameras, alarms, and other security systems.
- Assist with building opening, closing, and securing procedures.
- Support emergency preparedness efforts and staff safety training.
- Must be 18+ years of age.
- 3–5 years of experience in a customer service, security, or public-facing environment.
- Current Illinois PERC certification, or the ability to obtain certification within 6–12 months of hire.
- Strong communication and conflict-resolution skills.
- Ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations.
- Sound judgment and the ability to respond effectively to emergencies.
- Commitment to excellent customer service and creating an inclusive environment for all.
- Ability to work effectively with staff and customers in alignment with Our Culture and IDEA.
- Availability to work a schedule that includes evening and weekend hours

High school degree or equivalent required.
Hours and SchedulingPart-time, 20 hours/week.
Weeknight & Sunday availability required. Must be available 5:00‑9:30 pm on weekdays and 10:30 am – 6:30 pm on Sundays.
