Communication Systems Technician III

Responsibilities

• Install, program, and maintain complex communication equipment
• Repair systems and restore communications for public safety, hospitals, utilities, manufacturing, and other mission-critical customers
• Design and upgrade customer systems using current technologies and solutions
• Support and execute customer Functional Acceptance Test Plans (FATP)
• Perform and document site surveys and assessments for pre-sales delivery and post-installation
• Optimize systems and conduct complex troubleshooting
• Mentor and train the team on new technologies and equipment
• Partner with customers and sales teams to prepare quotes, bids, and completion schedules
• Complete assigned tickets properly and on time
• Make minor electronic-circuitry modifications and deploy factory software/firmware updates
• Build and maintain positive customer relationships and drive service-business growth and profitability as a primary customer interface
• Lead continuous-improvement efforts and manage change
• Serve in an on-call rotation and provide 24/7 technical support
• Collaborate with the team, Service Manager, and customers

• Minimum 5 years of technical service and installation experience; average of 10+ years
• Proven track record executing and overseeing all phases of technical installation, service, maintenance, and programming
• Expert ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain complex radio systems, communications centers, and other wireless systems/equipment
• Expert understanding of radio theory and propagation characteristics
• Thorough knowledge of infrastructure components including repeaters, mobiles, portables, and miscellaneous signaling equipment
• Strong communication skills for end users and third parties
• Willingness to learn and be mentored on new communications technologies and equipment
• Ability to work inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions
• Ability to use personal protective equipment and lift equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
• Ability to occasionally ascend/descend a ladder and operate a motor vehicle
• Ability to provide on-call/24/7 technical support and work occasional second or third shifts and weekends
• Ability to travel as necessary to support company and customer needs

Demonstrates expertise in installing, programming, and maintaining complex communication systems, with a strong focus on troubleshooting and optimizing radio systems and infrastructure components. Proven ability to mentor teams, manage customer relationships, and provide 24/7 technical support.
