- Salary Range: $70,552 - $91,290 annually

Supervisory, administrative and skilled repair work servicing, maintaining and repairing automotive, mechanical and other power equipment of the Department of Public Works; all other related work, as required.
SupervisionWorks under the general supervision of the Operations Manager who may discuss priorities with the supervisor. Performance of duties requires scheduling, expediting and controlling repair work, tracking expenses and record keeping of all repairs. Supervises five full-time employees.
Work EnvironmentMost work is performed in generally loud repair shop conditions, with frequent exposure to exhaust fumes, oil, dust and other airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals; work also involves risk of injury, burns and electrical shock and other hazards associated with working near moving mechanical parts and in confined spaces. The workload is subject to seasonal fluctuations concerning the type of repair work.
The employee is required to respond to weather-related emergencies.
The employee operates standard office equipment and a wide variety of equipment, including power, pneumatic and hand tools, various classes of motor vehicles, and various special and heavy and maintenance equipment and a computer. Employee demonstrates proficiency with a computer including Microsoft Word, Excel and Email. Employee demonstrates proven ability to operate and understand Fleet Maintenance Program(s). Thorough knowledge of vehicle trouble scan tools and software is required.
The employee has limited contact with the general public and regular contact with other division employees and vendors. Most contact is by telephone and email.
The employee has access to bid documents.
Errors could result in costly equipment damage, delay or loss of service, serious personal injury or injury to others, and monetary loss.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Plans, supervises and administers the program of repair and preventive maintenance for automotive, construction equipment and other mechanical equipment, such as trucks, front end loaders, light and heavy equipment; maintains records and files on each piece of equipment through the use of a computer-based Fleet Management Program.
- Develops, implements, and monitors adherence to policies and procedures. Responsible for addressing shop safety issues including maintenance of shop, equipment and current MSDS sheets.
- Establishes daily work assignments, establishes priorities and keeps track of repair work; supervises each repair project; supervises the general upkeep and maintenance of shop facilities; instructs employees in the proper operation and care of equipment. Tracks employee production.
- Orders and requisitions tools, repair parts and supplies; maintains control records and cost records.
- Periodically appraises the condition and maintenance of department equipment and makes recommendations on repair or replacement; assists in the preparation of specifications for new equipment. Identifies and coordinates training needs for garage employees.
- Provides general oversight for all maintenance and repairs, such as motor tune-ups, adjusting brakes and clutches, suspension, wheel alignment and lubrication; welding and/or fabrication of parts; repair of mechanical, hydraulic and electrical systems, gasoline and diesel engines, snow plows and sanding bodies; repair and maintenance service for power mowers and tools and similar equipment owned by the public works divisions. Oversees vehicle registration, state inspection and any other regulatory requirements.
