The RoleThis role has two salary ranges, depending on the level at which the candidate is hired:
Facilities Specialist - $48,000.00 - $71,900.00
Senior Facilities Specialist - $59,300.00 - $88,800.00
Avalon Bay Communities is looking for a hands-on, service-oriented Facilities Specialist / Senior Facilities Specialist to support our corporate headquarters. In this role, you ll be responsible for maintaining a safe, functional, and professional workplace environment for our associates, guests, and business partners. From troubleshooting building issues to coordinating repairs and supporting office moves, you ll play a critical role in the daily operations of our headquarters facility.

What You ll DoMaintain and Support Headquarters Operations
- Conduct daily facility inspections focused on HVAC performance, lighting, cleanliness, organization, conference room readiness, restrooms, copy rooms, and common areas
- Respond to and resolve day-to-day facilities requests including HVAC, plumbing, furniture, appliance, copier, shipping, and office equipment issues
- Perform preventative maintenance on pantry equipment including dishwashers, microwaves, ice makers, coffee machines, and water dispensers
- Troubleshoot facility-related issues and coordinate vendor service calls when needed
- Serve as the primary facilities contact when the Facilities Manager is off-site
Perform Maintenance and Repairs
- Complete minor repairs including painting, wall touch-ups, furniture repairs, door adjustments, carpet repairs, and basic plumbing work
- Replace light bulbs, copier toner, water filters, CO2 tanks, and other consumable supplies
- Maintain office equipment and ensure shared spaces remain fully operational and presentable
Manage Vendors and Facility Projects
- Coordinate contractor repairs and maintenance for furnishings, flooring, doors, lighting, plumbing, electrical systems, and other building components
- Review completed work and ensure repairs meet company standards
- Submit and manage service requests through building management systems and coordinate with building engineers
Support Workplace Services
- Set up conference rooms, training spaces, and event areas for meetings and special events
- Assist with office relocations and internal moves
- Partner with Information Services to prepare workstations for new hires and departing associates
- Communicate proactively with associates regarding repairs, projects, and facility-related updates
Maintain Safety and Security
- Maintain Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) and related supplies, including routine testing
- Participate on the Emergency Preparedness Team
- Provide backup support for building access and security systems, including badge and access management
- Maintain organized storage areas and facilities inventory
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum of 5 years of facilities, building maintenance, or workplace operations experience in a service-focused environment
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
