Job Summary:
A highly motivated professional with ability to make independent decisions efficiently and effectively and maintain accountability for all actions and decisions. Environmental Services Technicians (EVS Techs) will act as runners to support procurement of equipment and supplies in units. EVS Techs follow specific guidelines for infection control and daily cleaning of the patient care areas as well as cleaning and light maintenance from floor to ceiling throughout the facility.
EVS Techs will maintain the appearance of the public spaces outside the hospital building and parking lot. This will involve picking up loose trash, cigarette butts, emptying outside trash cans, etc. The EVS Tech is dedicated to providing an exceptional experience to guests and staff with quality outcomes in a safe, timely, courteous and cost effective manner.
Essential Functions:
- Safe and timely transportation of the supplies, and equipment throughout the facility.
- Distributing patient care and office supply needs according to the orders received.
- Wear a communication device, i.e. pager, to be easily contacted and respond quickly.
- Adheres to policies and procedures.
- Able to complete assignments in a timely manner.
- Maintains standards of quality and neatness.
- Keeps tools and equipment properly cleaned and maintained.
- Resourceful in using good judgment in evaluating needed repairs.
- Corrects problems as appropriate or promptly reports all necessary repairs and maintenance issues to appropriate area for correction.
- Plans activities to avoid disruption of services when possible.
- Notifies staff according to department policy when unable to report to work.
- Maintains a positive, customer-oriented attitude.
- Meets organizational and work unit standards as outlined in policies and procedures.
- Performs all job duties in accordance with recognized safety procedures.
- Demonstrates the ability to make calm and sensible decisions under various work situations, dealing with immediate problems reasonably.
- Must be able to communicate effectively with others at all levels of the organization.
- Seeks out ways to create an outstanding experience for guests and staff.
Section 2 – Processes and Procedures:
- Stripping and cleaning of charged patient rooms.
- Interdepartmental transporting of patients.
- Acts as a runner for the teams on the floors for supplies and equipment (takes specimens to lab/RT, brings blood units to the ward, obtains late meal trays, and the like).
- Maintain equipment with proper care and cleaning after use.
- Lock/unlock doors at designated times.
- Responsible for the cleanliness, basic upkeep, and infection control throughout the facility and associated clinics.
- Performs stat cleans and deep cleanings.
- Handle and dispose of infectious waste appropriately.
- Move beds and gurneys, steam clean gurneys.
- Floor care (strip, scrub, buffing, mop, vacuum, etc.) completed daily as needed or schedules project with appropriate team member.
- Maintains clutter free and clean housekeeping carts and rooms.
- Pick up outside trash daily.
- May remove loose brush around trees, remove trip hazards like small rocks, sweeps sidewalks, picks up loose paper and other trash from the hospital parking lot, large parking lot across the street and the green areas on the hospital grounds.
- May use hose, broom as needed.
- May move boxes, files, etc., from one place to another.
- Performs light maintenance including, but not limited to, changing screw-in light bulbs and touch up painting of door frames.
- Manages specific job route as detailed and assigned.
- Follows safety standards to ensure personal safety as well as safety of guests and staff.
- Concerns are reported promptly.
