Overview

This is a temporary position (9 months or less) paying $20-$21 per hour. Employment starts 04/25/2026 through 10/31/2026. This posting is for both Lead and Non Lead Inspector positions. Responsibilities

Non Lead Inspector
Perform boat inspector and decontaminator responsibilities according to state regulations and standard protocols. Work may be done independently or in pairs to inspect boats launching and leaving the reservoir, addressing invasive species concerns (e.g., zebra/quagga mussels). Provide public outreach on aquatic invasive species by distributing printed material to visitors. The position reports directly to the boat ramp. Boat inspection training will be provided.

Early morning, evening, and weekend work is required.

Lead Inspector

Perform boat inspector and decontaminator responsibilities according to state regulations and standard protocols at Antero Reservoir. The Site Lead Boat Inspector is responsible for providing on‑the‑job training to inspection staff, creating schedules, and ensuring all shifts are covered during operational hours. They will collect and verify accurate timekeeping records for payroll, work with the area work lead to resolve challenges with staff and customers, and may recommend hiring/firing of employees to the area work lead.

Additional responsibilities include ensuring staff follow standardized protocols via monthly quality control assessments, ensuring accurate data entry by all inspection station staff, maintaining inventory of required supplies, performing basic maintenance and troubleshooting on the power washer/decontamination unit, and providing public outreach on aquatic invasive species. Early morning, evening, and weekend work is required.

Minimum Qualifications

Pursuant to the DNR-120 Fleet and Driving Standards Administrative Directive, any worker who is expected to drive a state-owned vehicle is responsible for maintaining a safe driving record and a valid driver license before driving any state-owned vehicle. To comply with the new fleet vehicle policy, Motor Vehicle Records (MVRs) will be reviewed for workers who have an assigned state fleet vehicle, are required to operate a vehicle as part of the position, or use a state fleet vehicle as a pool vehicle.

  • High school diploma.
  • Experience working with boats, trailers, power washers, small engines, and/or heavy equipment preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word applications – Word, Excel, Access.
For Non Lead
  • Ability to work weekends, early mornings, and late evenings.
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Excellent customer service experience working with the public desired.
  • Reliable and timely.
  • Ability to self-motivate and work independently.
Preferred Qualifications
  • High school diploma.
  • Experience working with boats, trailers, power washers, small engines and/or heavy equipment preferred.
