Overview

This is a temporary position (9 months or less) paying $19.00-$20.00 per hour. Employment starts 05/01/2026 through 10/31/2026. This posting is for both Lead and Non Lead Inspector positions.

The mission of the Colorado Department of Natural Resources is to develop, preserve, and enhance the state's natural resources for the benefit and enjoyment of current and future citizens and visitors. Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) aims to perpetuate wildlife resources, provide a quality state parks system, and offer enjoyable and sustainable outdoor recreation opportunities that educate and inspire current and future generations to be active stewards of Colorado's natural resources.

Responsibilities

Perform boat inspector and decontaminator responsibilities according to state regulations and standard protocols at Taylor Park Reservoir. Lead Inspector: provide on-the-job training to inspection staff; create schedules and ensure shifts are covered during operational hours; collect and verify timekeeping records for payroll; work with the area lead to resolve staff and customer challenges; assist with hiring decisions; ensure staff follow standardized protocols;

manage data entry accuracy; maintain inventory of supplies; perform basic maintenance and troubleshooting on power washer/decontamination units; provide public outreach on aquatic invasive species. Early morning, evening, and weekend work is required. Non Lead Inspector: inspect boats launching and leaving the reservoir with respect to invasive species (zebra/quagga mussels); provide public outreach with printed materials; work can be performed independently or in pairs;

Qualifications

BASIC REQUIREMENTS FOR LEAD

  • High school diploma.
  • Good driving record and ability to work weekends, early mornings and late evenings.
  • Experience working with boats, trailers, power washers, small engines and/or heavy equipment preferred.
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Excellent customer service experience working with the public desired.
  • Reliable and timely.
  • Ability to self-motivate and work independently.
  • Comply with DNR-120 Fleet and Driving Standards Administrative Directive regarding driving state-owned vehicles and maintaining a valid driver license.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS FOR NON LEAD

  • High school diploma.
  • Good driving record and ability to work weekends, early mornings and late evenings.
  • Experience working with boats, trailers, power washers, small engines and/or heavy equipment preferred.
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Excellent customer service experience working with the public desired.
  • Reliable and timely.
  • Ability to self-motivate and work independently.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
:
Bachelor's Degree in Biological Sciences or comparable work experience. Employee may be asked to camp in rustic settings and must provide own camping equipment and gear when performing biological field work.
