Job SummaryThe BAS / Controls Field Technician Associate will learn through hands‑on application how to assist with installation, startup, and checkout of a wide variety of projects. Working as part of the Install Team, the technician will provide technical support for project startup, installation, testing, commissioning, and closeout of building automation systems software integration projects in industrial, commercial, and mission‑critical/technology sectors.
Responsibilities- Install, wire, and terminate BAS controllers and field devices; assist with low‑voltage cable termination.
- Support startup and cutovers of panels and systems; assist in developing Methods of Procedure (MOPs) for site activities.
- Conduct pre‑functional and functional testing; troubleshoot BAS systems and implement corrective actions.
- Observe and support commissioning efforts of external stakeholders; analyze system operation and demonstrate operation to project team.
- Assist with QA/QC of BAS and integrated systems using BAS software tools; support installation inspections and closeout duties.
- Prepare shop‑drawing markup to document as‑built conditions; organize job site, manage material logistics and inventory, tools storage, and security.
- Maintain project communication and reporting, including daily site updates, safety reports, and progress reports; attend daily and weekly project meetings.
- Document and track issues and out‑of‑scope efforts.
- Complete assigned tasks and deliverables on time and on budget; perform other related duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of HVAC, mechanical, and electrical systems and materials.
- Knowledge of controls wiring, relay logic, and associated materials.
- Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams) and exceptional organizational skills for file management.
- Ability to leverage AI and emerging technologies to streamline workflows and optimize operational processes.
- Ability to work successfully in a remote environment through effective communication, self‑motivation, proactiveness, and resourcefulness.
- Ability to follow company and site safety requirements.
- Analytical skills to prepare documents, reports, and correspondence.
- Effective oral and written communication skills (technical and non‑technical).
- Capability to serve as primary point of client contact when required.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Certification in NFPA 70E and/or OSHA training as required.
- Maintain a clean, organized jobsite.
- Organizational skills to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
The employee frequently manipulates, moves, or grasps small parts, devices, or tools; may remain in stationary positions or work in confined spaces; descends/ascends stairs and ladders; occasionally positions self under or over equipment; may move equipment up to 50 lb.
Travel / Relocation RequirementsPrimarily supports local and regional projects; most travel within the employee’s home market or surrounding area. Must be based within reasonable commuting distance of the assigned region and able to travel locally as business needs require. Occasional overnight travel may be required. Effective May 7 2025, a valid REAL acceptable alternative is required for domestic air travel.
Education / Experience Requirements- Associate’s degree or Technical Certificate in Building Automation Systems, Mechanical/Electrical Technology, or a closely related field.
- OR two years of experience with hands‑on installation, testing, validation, and troubleshooting of controls infrastructure.
