Field/Service Technician, Maintenance Technician / Mechanic, Installation Technician

Duties & Responsibilities- Provide job‑site construction and technical leadership for large projects.
- Maintain working knowledge of critical infrastructure equipment in data centres.
- Lead a multi‑disciplinary on‑site team comprising project leaders, installers, technicians, customer engineers and subcontractors.
- Represent Vertiv at daily customer meetings and communicate technical requirements.
- Lead and support start‑up and site testing activities.
- Keep current on Vertiv equipment start‑up and commissioning processes, procedures, and tools‑of‑the‑trade.
- Stay updated on safety bulletins, field change notices and service tips.
- Lead daily toolbox talk, pre‑job safety walk and inspections.
- Ensure adherence to all site and Vertiv safety policies.
- Operate safely in accordance with guidelines and wear appropriate PPE.
- Observe the 14‑hour rule and report incidents within 24 hours.
- Model safety through stop‑work authority and corrective actions.
- Adhere to Vertiv warranty process in partnership with the project manager.
- Provide accurate reporting: timecards, expense reports, mileage, SR/task closures.
- Assist the project manager with technical data and maintain project systems.
- Maintain company property: credit cards, PPE, test equipment, laptop, smartphone.
- Communicate effectively with internal and external customers.
- Align daily expectations and clarify or realign when misalignment occurs.
- Maintain customer satisfaction rates per company guidelines.
- Make decisions based on the Fundamental 5:
Safety, Quality, Timeliness, Cost, Productivity. - Operate under pressure and maintain a productive utilization rate.
- Adhere to dress code, safety regulations, and company startup/escalation procedures.
- Represent Vertiv Behaviors in all actions.
- Communicate with all organizational levels; handle stressful situations calmly.
- Exercise diplomacy with internal and external customers.
- Experience (any of the following):
- ASEET or ASMET credentials preferred.
- Industry experience leading start‑up and commissioning of power or HVAC equipment.
- Minimum 2 years of industrial construction management experience.
- Strong interpersonal skills: organizational, independent, verbal and written communication.
- Ability to read one‑line diagrams and blueprints.
- Up‑to‑date product certifications.
- Technical skills for on‑site evaluation, reporting, and decision‑making.
- Computer proficiency: word processing, spreadsheet, email, data analysis, network familiarity.
- Mechanical aptitude.
- Assignments lasting 4 weeks to 12+ months.
- Field rotation of 3 weeks on site followed by 1 week break; must maintain 40 hrs of billable work.
- Projects in new construction or retrofit.
- Flexible schedules including weekends, evenings, holidays.
- Valid driver’s licence.
- Deployable in emergencies.
