TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the system's approved compensation plan.
  • Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the system.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least five years' experience in maintenance.
  • Administrative certification or classified with experience and/or training in maintenance.
  • Proficient in public relations and management of maintenance employees.
  • Must meet background clearance requirements as specified by Alabama statutes and State Board of Education regulations.

SUPERVISES:
Maintenance Employees and physical school facilities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinate the services related to maintenance, lawn maintenance, and custodial.
  • Plan, organize, and assign maintenance employees to daily job tasks.
  • Check completed job tasks of maintenance employees.
  • Maintain adequate inventory of maintenance supplies, and equipment.
  • Provide technical supervision of custodial personnel in cooperation with principals.
  • Develop a plan for the health and safety of maintenance and custodial personnel.
  • Formulate and recommend to the Superintendent, in concert with supervisory staff appropriate staff development activities for personnel in maintenance and custodial services.
  • Participate in appropriate local and state meetings.
  • Evaluate all personnel within the Maintenance Department.
  • Direct, supervise and evaluate maintenance personnel in accordance with Board policy.
  • Manage the School System's automated maintenance work system.
  • Be on call seven days a week, 24 hours a day, for emergencies threatening the school system's property and equipment.
  • Assist the Human Resources Department with recruitment and selection of maintenance personnel.
  • Provide training for maintenance and custodial personnel.
  • Approve, organize, prioritize, order, evaluate and maintain records of materials for all maintenance projects.
  • Meet with the Assistant Superintendent/CSFO on a monthly basis to report on upcoming day to day projects, equipment needs, personnel concerns/needs and any other information necessary for the effectiveness of the maintenance operation.
  • Keep the Assistant Superintendent/CSFO apprised of deadlines, personnel concerns and any other matters as needed.
  • Coordinate the care and maintenance of all Athens City School facilities.
  • Maintain accurate and current records of maintenance projects including, but not limited to, time-on-task, cost and completion dates.
  • Supervise the maintenance of all vehicles and equipment in the maintenance department.
  • Assist the Assistant Superintendent/CSFO in developing an annual maintenance budget.
  • Assist the Assistant Superintendent/CSFO with the purchase of school vehicles.
  • Assist Principals in prioritizing maintenance needs for each school.
  • Assist health inspectors and other outside personnel with the evaluation of physical facilities.
  • Adhere to all federal, state, and local laws, policies and regulations.
  • Assume other reasonable and equitable job-related duties assigned by the Assistant Superintendent/CSFO or the Superintendent.
  • KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of building trades and applicable functions.
  • Knowledge of the organization and operation of maintenance, and custodial services.
  • Ability to plan and manage work schedules.
  • Knowledge of state and local laws and policies related to public works projects.
  • Ability to organize effectively.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal forms.
  • Ability to supervise and evaluate personnel.
  • Skills in public relations and problem-solving.
  • Knowledge and proficiency in the use of technology.
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws relative to business operations.
  • Physical ability and dexterity to visit schools and community sites and work areas for decision-making relative to maintenance and construction and custodial services.
  • EVALUATION:

    Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board's policy on the evaluation of personnel.
