Position Summary

The primary function of this position is to execute a variety of cleaning tasks throughout residential communities housing 1,200 or more residents. The role also includes scheduled summer tasks, transitions, and cleaning of rotating camps, conferences and student orientation programs. Duties involve maintaining communication and customer service with peers, residents and other stakeholders, working periodic weekend and holiday shifts, and participating in on‑call operations to uphold a 24‑hour, seven‑day residential program.

Availability for specified shifts and occasional Saturday, Sunday, or after‑hours work is required.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent and 2 years of related experience
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
  • Safely operates and uses various custodial tools, e.g., vacuums and custodial machinery.
  • Completes work assignments with the expected degree of independence and quality.
  • Communicates effectively and collaborates with a wide variety of individuals such as skilled trades workers, residence hall staff, students/families and other team members via telephone or in person.
  • Works well as a team member.
  • Utilizes computer applications including One Source, Microsoft Office Suite, UGA email and employee websites.

  • Designated as Essential Personnel Pool; may be asked to report to work during inclement weather or other emergency situations. Employees will be contacted by their supervisor with instructions on when and where to report and what duties will be necessary. Designation is reviewed annually during performance evaluation.
  • Participate in departmental “all hands‑on‑deck” events (e.g., move‑in, move‑out, residence hall emergencies).
Physical Demands
  • Climb stairs and ladders; may work from a ladder.
  • Bend at the waist and knees.
  • Work with arms and hands overhead for an extended period.
  • Stand, kneel, or squat for long periods of time.
  • Use, care and maintain hand tools and power tools.
  • Lift and move items at least 50 pounds in weight, both assisted and unassisted.
  • Perform work indoors with steam and humidity or hot/cold conditions and outdoors in various seasons and weather conditions.
Duties / Responsibilities Cleaning and Related Duties
  • Thoroughly clean, disinfect, and sanitize all areas of the residence halls including bathrooms, flooring, furniture, kitchens, laundry rooms, machines, and common areas.
  • Remove trash and recyclables; clean trash cans and recycle bins.
  • Maintain supplies of soap, toilet tissue, paper towels, hand sanitizer, etc., in restrooms, kitchens, breakrooms, and public spaces.
  • Track and maintain custodial supplies.
  • Participate in the Residential Building Services on‑call program as required.
  • Perform thorough cleaning and monitoring of vacant student rooms and apartments.
Summer Transition Operations
  • Perform summer project work assignments including annual deep cleaning of the residence halls.
  • Participate in moving stock items such as wood bed frames, bed springs, dressers, etc.
