Facilities Maintenance Assistant

The Corporation for Ohio Appalachian Development (COAD) is a 50-year-old nonprofit organization based in Athens, OH. As one of the largest nonprofits in the region, we strive to improve the quality of life in Appalachia and eliminate the burden of poverty through targeted programs that advocate for and serve underrepresented households and individuals.

We are currently seeking a Part-Time Facilities Maintenance Assistant (approximately 20 hours per week) to join our team. In this role, you will help maintain COAD’s facilities, grounds, and equipment, ensuring a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for employees, clients, students, and visitors while supporting the day-to-day operations of our organization.

• Assist with routine maintenance and upkeep of the COAD office building and grounds.
• Perform custodial duties including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, trash removal, and cleaning offices, hallways, stairways, and common areas.
• Assist with minor building repairs including painting, basic plumbing, replacing HVAC filters, and other routine maintenance projects.
• Maintain the exterior of the property by mowing lawns, trimming shrubs, cultivating flower beds, and removing snow and debris from sidewalks and entrances.
• Assist with routine maintenance of agency vehicles and equipment and coordinate major service as needed.
• Order and maintain an inventory of maintenance and janitorial supplies.
• Assist with monthly inspections of emergency lighting and fire extinguishers and coordinate annual inspections and maintenance.
• Operate equipment and tools safely while maintaining a clean, organized, and secure work environment.
• Support the Maintenance Coordinator in ensuring COAD’s facilities reflect a positive image for employees, clients, and community partners.

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Six months of maintenance, custodial, facilities, landscaping, or related experience preferred.
• Valid driver’s license and proof of automobile liability insurance required.
• Basic knowledge of building maintenance, custodial practices, landscaping, and the safe use of maintenance equipment and tools.
• Ability to perform physical work including lifting up to 50 pounds and working indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize work and complete tasks independently.
• Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety and following established procedures.
• Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to assist wherever needed.
