Position: Staff Tax Accountant
Position Summary:

Tax/Staff Accountant will assist with the management of multistate sales/occupancy tax returns, personal property tax returns and various other state and local filings.

I.

Position Responsibilities:

Essential
  • Review, and oversee our Third Party that files sales/use and hotel occupancy tax returns for monthly, quarterly and annual filings for multiple jurisdictions
  • Record month end sales and use tax journal entries
  • Assist the tax manager and tax team with sales tax and property tax audits - audit calendar, correspondence to auditor's requests, and audit status report
  • Prepare check requests for tax invoices
  • Prepare business registrations, business licenses and annual reports
  • Respond to property general managers to answer tax questions or determine the validity of sales tax exemptions
  • Properly record and document exempt revenue
  • Prepare tax journal entries and enter them into the accounting system (Epicor)
  • Assist the tax manager with tax notices from various jurisdictions to resolve outstanding tax issues
  • Assist the tax manager with periodic research for tax rate change and municipal code update
II. Essential Skills/Credentials/Experience/Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting
  • Familiarity with online tax research resources
  • Detail oriented with a high degree of accuracy
  • Ability to efficiently work in a high volume environment
  • Strong analytical and organizational capabilities
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Previous sales/occupancy tax experience is preferred
III. Mental and Physical Demands

Work Environment:
  • Typical office environment - moderate noise level
Physical Demands:
  • Indoor work with hard and carpeted surfaces
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
  • This position is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Extensive use of hands and fingers for manipulation of the keyboard, answering phone calls, calculator, copy machine, computer printer, and other office productivity machinery.
  • Use of computer terminal, which requires extensive eye contact with a video display terminal.
  • The person in this position frequently communicates with employees/vendors. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
  • The position will be physically located in the Atlanta office; working remotely (outside of Company Directed Guidelines) is not permitted. Currently, the in-office work model is a hybrid with 2 days remote/3 days in the office.
Travel Demands:
  • This position requires less than 5% travel; however, from time to time, and depending on the project, travel needs could change.
